Keeping Metallic Particles out of Phone?

Bit of a weird question but this has happened to numerous handsets now - I have them in my pocket in the workshop and they end up with metallic particles stuck to either the loudspeaker speaker or the earpiece speaker making for a crackly sound. I've always managed by using a magnet to get most of it out (though never entirely successful) but I've got a new HTC that is not accessible (ie you cant take it in bits).

So I really want to avoid this happening - problem is its handy to have your phone with you for obvious reasons (customer calls, wifey calls etc). So any suggestions? It seems to happen regardless of being in pocket, or kept a few metres away (I guess particles can travel!).

So given that most of you like to hack at bits of metal in your spare time I just wondered what you do to avoid this?

Keep a strong magnet in your pocket to collect the particles before they get in your phone?

I've had it happen twice - now put phone into a ziploc bag if I'm grinding within 5 meters of the phone.

I have been using a reinforced rubber case for my iPhone that has been tested by the British and American army.
I'm a roofer by trade and has to put up with all sorts of conditions of Scottish weather and dust, the phone has even had a 3 storey fall and still survived.

The make is by a company called GRIFFIN and I know I have a different phone but they maybe make for other phone manufacturers.

+1 for a small plastic zip lock bag as long as you remember to use it!
Another answer is to have two phones one cheapy that is just a prepay for receiving calls from customers and your personal phone that stays in the office, lunch box,car ie as far away from the grinder as it can get. I have killed 4 phones so far with grinding dust apart from the last one that fell off the bench while on charge in to the bucket of machine coolant.

Do capacitive screen phones still work through a bag though? Mine stops working if my hands are slightly dry.

I really miss my old resistive screen Nokia, being able to dial a number while wearing gloves was great!

I put my HTC desire in a ziploc bag when i go out running with it in my pocket (for tracking with endomondo) and the touch screen still works through the bag.

I can only sympathise with the steel particles on the speaker. I couldn't understand why my old phone's speaker was getting so bad until I had it in bits to change a cracked screen and the speaker looked like a little grey hedgehog.
