Ryanair - another point of view?
Arriving in a hotel in Dublin, Michael O’Leary, CEO of Ryanair, went to the bar and asked for a pint of draught Guinness.
The barman nodded and said, "That will be one Euro please, Mr. O’Leary."
Somewhat taken aback, O'Leary replied, "That's very cheap," and handed over his money.
"Well, we try to stay ahead of the competition", said the barman. "And we are serving free pints every Wednesday evening from 6
until 8. We have the cheapest beer in Ireland".
"That is remarkable value" Michael comments.
“I see you don't seem to have a glass, so you'll probably need one of ours - that will be 3 Euro please".
O'Leary scowled, but paid up. He took his drink and walked towards a seat.
"Ah, you want to sit down?" said the barman, "that will be an extra 2 Euro, but you could have pre-booked the seat, and it would
have only cost you one Euro".
"I think you may be too big for the seat sir, can I ask you to sit in this frame please".
Michael attempts to sit down but the frame is too small and when he can't squeeze in he complains "Nobody would fit in that little
frame".
"I'm afraid if you can't fit in the frame you'll have to pay an extra surcharge of 4 Euro for your seat sir".
O'Leary swore to himself, but paid up.
"I see that you have brought your laptop with you" added the barman. "And since that wasn't pre-booked either, that will be
another 3 Euro."
O'Leary was so annoyed that he walked back to the bar, slammed his drink on the counter, and yelled, "This is ridiculous, I want to speak
to the manager".
"Ah, I see you want to use the counter," says the barman, "that will be 2 Euro please."
O'Leary's face was red with rage. "Do you know who I am?" "Of course I do Mr. O'Leary,"
"I've had enough, what sort of hotel is this? I come in for a quiet drink and you treat me like this. I insist on speaking to a
manager!"
"Here is his email address, or if you wish, you can contact him between 9 and 9.10 every morning, Monday to Tuesday at this free phone number.
Calls are free, until they are answered, then there is a talking charge of only 10 cent per second".
"I will never use this bar again".
“OK sir, but remember, we are the only hotel in Ireland selling pints for one Euro".
"That thing you're thinking - it wont be that."

Yep - Spot on...
Welcome to Great Britain, where the application of hooks to your eyes, applies with a lot of what you spend your hard earned cash on....
Rip Off, Poor service and retail mark up based on how much they can get away with, not what its worth with reasonable profit margins.

An alternative point of view....
Nobody forces you to fly Ryanair.
Also nobody forces people not to bother checking up on what you'll be charged for. Sounds like another case of the lazy and feckless blaming
other people for their own lack of planning and foresight.
People should grow up and take responsibility for their own lives instead of expecting other people to hand them things on a plate.

Nobody forces me to buy milk at a supermarket, but I expect it in a carton to get it home.
Rather than be alternative, there are basics of service which appear to be being stretched to the extreme, not in the cause of driving service up and
cost down, but more a case of profit and greed.
I agree you get what you pay for, but in the UK this is about how much they can get away with, Mr O'Leary is an expert in this field.

You have to buy a souvenir crinks cup.
That's another £2-3 quid, can't quite remember.
Seriously, if they could have charged for the air to breath, they would have.

Nobody actually wants to fly by Ryanair, people fly by Ryanair because often the bottom line can be significantly cheaper or Ryanair flys
to a airport closer to the destination you want to reach. but when go on to the Ryanair web site and work out what a flight will actually cost after
half an hour you might think you know then when you book magically extra surcharges suddenly appear. The whole booking process leaves you feeling
you have been conned.
In days gone bye the government would have stepped and regulated the way flights are sold but with the current political climate with a Cabinet that
would regard Attila the Hun as soft left winger it is unlikely to happen.

^^ and if everyone decided that they wouldn't fly Ryanair because of the service then they would have to get better or go bust....
but the fact is that the website tells you the final cost before you pay (although I'll admit you have to read it carefuly to catch all the
extra's and pre-book options) and 5min on google will tell you were your going to land - so you can decide not to book
in the end most flights are still booked solid, with just a handful of people complaining (most of them probably didn't read the small print)
I don't know about the rest of you but the only 'extra' I ever use is the hold bagage - and I don't mind paying a little extra
for that as most of the time I don't use it 
(edit - hang on a min that sounds like I'm defending Ryanair  )
I flew to Olso with them last newyear, when we added on all the extra's they were still the cheapest flight by miles, we wanted a hire car
anyway so the fact that it was an hours drive to Oslo from the airport was no problem (Torp is a nice quiet little airport and the car hire was
cheaper too) - I wouldn't ever say it was enjoyable, but we got there on time without any issues
