Bike front forks - HELP

So decided to resurrect the Laverda.
Failed MOT on leaking front fork.
Story so far - demounted the fork but I'm blowed if I can undo the 6mm hex bolt holding the piston assembly at the lower end - the one that's buried up in the slider.
Various and increasingly extreme methods have failed to dislodge it.
Last one involved a broad bladed screwdriver down the tube held very tightly by a sash clamp and then the ratchet gun on the other end.
Coming to the conclusion someone has used silicon or similar to seal it and locked it in as well.
Last resort will be to drill it out but it may just rotate as I'm doing it.
So ANY suggestions gratefully received.

The usual fix is to ram a broom handle up the fork and push as hard against the damper rod as you can whilst using an impact gun on the damper rod bolt. An air ratchet is no good at all for this, it has to be a proper impact gun.

Depending on the fork design you may not need to remove the stanchion to replace the seal. Drill a small hole in the top of the old seal and screw a self tapper into it and use that to pull the seal out.

Thanks, Mike. Got me thinking and have just sorted it.
Used a set of sash clamps to compress the tube and spring by 3.5", then played a hot-air gun up the end of the slider aimed at the allen head using a nozzle. Once the slider above the allen bolt location was too hot to touch (about 10 mins) working the rattle-gun backwards and forwards had the little b*ggers out in no time. Looks as if they were Loctited in but gather the recommendation is to avoid if possible.
Now just need to paint, re-assemble, re-MOT, tax and off to Brooklands on Sunday - not a lot to do then..

I'd agree with that, I've never used thread lock on the damper rod bolts. If they are correctly torqued and have a new copper/alloy washer they shouldn't undo or leak, and you have a decent chance of getting them out again.

I must confess, I have used a wee blob of non-setting Hylomar on threads when I struggled to get one fork-leg to seal!!

In the old days I used a pair of bellow rubbers, over the shiney bits,
never had a fail after that !!

but, i did have, an awful 100 mph + crash on a newish goldwing , on a bend, after that! due to leaking fork seals





Thats was probably spelt wrong, or had some grammer, that the "grammer police have to have a moan at
