Salvation Army

My Son and I have spent several hours over the last few weekends as a volunteer bell ringers for the Salvation Army. I was surprised by the generosity of the people in my area. We probably collected about $200 each time. Friday and Saturday nights. Many people made a point of giving there small children money to put in the kettle. It seemed that every group of people gave money, rich, poor, people with multiple piercings, young or old. Even students on beer runs. The coordinator with the Salvation Army said that we did double duty because we volunteered to collect money they did not have to pay someone for that spot.
PS: More money was put into the donation kettle than was spent on beer while we were at the store.

i read the other day that the amount per head given to charity in the usa is 1500 dollars! thats 10x the uk.

however, most of that was corporate donations, as, it said, there isnt as much of a welfare state in the USA and is more reliant on big donors.

good on ya for doing your bit!
