And a Golden retreiver, a game bag full of rabbits, pheasent and grouse, the collection of pipes and various differing chioces of tobacco, may indeed bring it down to the 60bhp/tonne region

Apparantly Subarus are the new Volvos (Legacys that is). Imagine farmer's wife in a Subaru Legacy B-spec

my 740 turbo is 220 hp/1350 kgs

162 hp /tonne

for 700 kgs

314/hp tonne - porsche territory

that donor car will cost £250- £500

Ah I see, interesting. I assume the engine is old enough to not need a CAT?

What gearbox are you mounting it to? Are you using sierra running gear or all the volvo stuff?

all volvo , as much as possible , get some really nice brakes into the bargain , but then im also debating a transaxle at the rear . All ET engines are de cat , FT engines have cats and less power generally , std gearbox will got to 250 hp ,but if i dont use transaxle , ill more than likely use a getrag .
