I like the Transport 2000 idea that one of the presenters could join a protest where 3500 people lie down in the middle of the road.

Hmm, 3500 protesters... in the middle of the road... anyone got a monster truck?

I think we are living in more of a dictatorship than a democracy now.

Look on the bright side if BBC get rid of top gear just tune into channel 4. Bound to end up on there sooner or latter if BBC axe it.

Better than a monster truck, how about a tank, if the portesters try to run away you always have a big gun on top.

This paragraph in the BBC article just made me laugh, just imagine Mr. Clarkson doing this...

"Third Gear would give the Top Gear guys the chance to adopt a new image: greener, more caring, willing to slow down for old ladies crossing the road and perhaps even to stop to help the odd cyclist mend a puncture. "

The name is stupid as well!

Andy.

Are they taking the wee here or what?

"So, here's the running order for the imaginary first two editions of Third Gear, the first to be broadcast on 5 June, World Environment Day, with the follow up a week later during Green Transport Week/Bike Week.

Jeremy Clarkson would "test drive" a range of new "shopper" bicycles and assesses the advantages of front basket over rear rack. He takes a trip to his local organic food store and stocks up on green lentils, brown rice and mung beans before stacking them carefully on his bike for the journey home along traffic-calmed Liverpool Road in north London. Once he arrives, he measures the amount of lentils, rice and beans left in the bags before cooking himself a nutritious meal. "

Two things I thought when I read an article in the paper about this:

The complaint comes from Transport 2000 - that means they are five years out of date so not worth listening to.

JC testing push bikes and public transport would be great - he would absolutely slate the public transport and no-one would ever want to try it again. I think he did do something about a push bike once - it had a jet engine fitted on the pannier rack

I watched an old edition of top gear on sky the other night, They reviewed a 'green' car. Can't remember the make but it was a combination jobby with an electric motor and a petrol one. JC tested it and found it was less economical than a standard VW lupo....

So there you go - they do cover 'green' cars - but they're crap!

If oyu ever saw Clarksons chat show andylancaster3000, you would know that clarksonand food (even healthy food) go very well together like making muesli or what to do with spagetti jars. JC was even showed you how to make christmas dinner and serve it.

Regards that green cars, IC/electric ones like JC tested still get all there energy from petrol (or deisel) and a 1ton car and 1ton green car take the same amount of energy to move.
You want green then you can go for hydrogen or battery, of which batteries are very inefficent, and both ultimately get there energy from a nuclear or gas/oil power stations (oh and about 2% wind etc.).

Final option is plant oil or ethenol (fermentate plants), both produce CO2, but at least the plants grown for fuel take the CO2 back in.
As an aside current biodeisel is about 5% bio, 95% fosil fuel.

For the record I run 100% Biodiesel and its fantastic. (I've bored people with this fact before so I shall be brief)

5% blend is whats available at the pumps which is also available in France. Actually, you cannot get 100% dino diesel in France I believe.

Basically if you use manufactured Bio at EN14216 standard then its better for the engine than ULSD.

Also, Biodiesel is NOT vegetable oil. If you chuck veg oil in your diesel with no pre-heating you'll stuff the injection pump.

Cheers
