Sky Freesat etc...

Anyone know anything about this?

My plan is to buy a Sky box of ebay, connect it to the dish I have, point it into the sky and then get the basic free channels for free.

But further enquiries make me think I will need a "freesat" card for £20 from Sky to make this happen.

Anyone any experience?

Cheers,

Pat...

yes you need a card even to get the free channels, you used to be able to get one free from sky, but they put a stop to it thinking it would force people into subscribing.

Depends if your after the digital freeview channels.

Not sure about now cos it blew up,
but we had a Amstrad Sky analogue box that without any card you could get all the free German channels RTL etc .
This was after they'd turned off the UK analogue sky signal on the same channels and even with the dish pointing in the same direction.

I've considered getting another analogue box from Ebay or the like but don't know if this still works, Does nybody else know? or fancy dragging the old analogue box out of the loft and trying it?

I think it was Maplins last time i was in there had a Satalite dish and decoder aand maybe a gadget for where 2 point it, for about £80 for I presume recieving foreign channels

Sky box will give you bbc, skynews, M&Motors shopping channels ect
The card gets you ITV and one or two other channels. I have sat tv in the workshop that has this setup and it works great. We lost motors tv a few months back but m&m is better get the panasonic boxes much better than the pace boxes

anyone noticed that M&M and Bravo have cleaned up their act? You now get episodes of the professionals instead of 'girls go crazy' and all that terrible stuff

Main problem is that I'm on the wrong side of a hill and don't have an aerial.

Getting NTL at the mo, but the service has loads of glitches and I'm paying £12 odd quid a month and hardly ever watch TV anyway. Not bothered anout many of the free channels anyway.

Looks like I'm gonna get myself a box and sky card - already have a dish.

Cheers,

Pat...

Forget TV, You've got a car to build- more TV will only delay it's completion!

[rant at TV in general]
Why on earth would anyone want to pay to sit in front a box who's sole reason for existence* is to keep you there so you see as much advertising as possible and then pay for other things!
[/rant]

When I'm an old man on my death bed and I look back, I really don't think I'll be very pleased with myself if I have to say:
"Well, I didn't achieve much but atleast I managed to spend a few hours watching bid-up TV"
Which is why when I finally get my own place- THERE WILL BE NO TV!

And damn, am I looking forward to that!

The only things worth watching are The Simpsons (unfortunately now Ch4) and Top Gear anyway.

Cheers,
James

Simpsons.... Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh.....

It would be on 24/7 if my kids had anything to do with it. We've got Sky+ and the HDD is half full of it.

Don't get me wrong it's a well put together show but you can have too much of a good thing.

The free channels on Sky are a waste of time. Far better to get Freeview. However, there is something else on the horizon so don't sell your spare Sky Digi boxes yet....

I CAN'T GET BLOODY FREEVIEW

Is no one listening?

I'm on the wrong side of a big hill and have no ariel, which wouldn't work anyway as the "local" relay station is miles away anyway.

Can anyone think of a better way to get free telly for under £50 that you can take with you to any house or even abroad?

Thanks,

Pat...
