Re-juvinating re-chargeable batteries
Does anyone know the trick to re-juvinate re-chargeable batteries like theone in my drill?
Something like electrocuting the battery with a couple of AA batteries for a few seconds?
Cheers,
Pat...

you have to completely discharge them a few times a good way is with a small bulb
charge-discharge a few time usually removes the memory effect
i read this in Model engineers workshop magazine

DO NOT let the bulb got totally out though if you do this, is it will damage some of the cells in the pack.
Whats wrong with them Pat? I'll tell you what to do.

My B&D drill only seems to work for minutes now rather than hours.
Come on G, be useful for a change!

Apparently the mamory effect is only relevant with Ni-Cd batteries. Most drills are now using Ni-Mh which do not suffer the same problems.

nah - the mammory effect is something else. NiCads get metal crystals growing through the electrolyte (I thought the term was "low memory"
) If you whack a few amps through you can burn these off & get a bit more life but basically the writing's on the wall.....

There was a place advertised a while back that deals with fixing all that sort of stuff, I'll try and dig it out.
Edit: This is the place
http://www.strikalite.co.uk
They repack rechargeable batteries or sell new ones. I've heard the prices are pretty reasonable.

Try cleaning the charging contacts with a pencil rubber Pat,you could put new cells into the battery pack, normally sub C size, solder tagged. But at
the end of the day is it worth it, bought a 30 volt cordless drill on saturday from a B&Q whorehouse for £26
Cheers,
Bob

Don't you blow on batteries or rub them together or something to get more life out of them or is that just what people do with their remote
controls?
