Winged Messenger

Has anyone ever had a letter from a company called 'The Winged Messenger'. Ive recieved a letter to call them back, guy called Sebastian Jennings. Sounds very professional but no details. Compnay apparently specialises in private investigation, debt recovery, family tree investigation etc etc. Sounds very suss. Anyone got experience of them???

A work mate had a letter from them some time ago , he suspected it had something top do with past dodgy buisness dealings by him.I said it sounded a bit suspect and when he called them they said that they were investigating on behalf of a credit card company he owed money to.He refused to give them any details and heard no more from them as far as i know. The strange bit is they said that they needed to verify his address but had sent the letter to him so were aware of his home address.

I've read about them trying to find people by asking them to ring back and asking their date of birth and whether they lived in a certain area to try to find debtors to recover money. Sebastian Jennings does not actually exist but is the codename used by them so they know what you have been contacted for when you call them. I would ignore it for as long as you can unless your curiosity gets the better of you. Put their number up so anyone can call them and give them something to think about. If you do ring them use the 141 option on the phone so they can't identify you that way.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Remember if you are really worried about it (I wouldn't be personally) but if you are you can ask them to supply everything they have on file about you...... under the data protection act 1998 they legally have to give you everything they have on file about you within 48 days.

You know.... I'm SOOOOOOO depressed that I know that.

Who the f**K tightened this up!

Be VERY CAREFULL with this company.
I believe they have a system in place that overides the 141 available on BT. If you phone them out of hours and choose NOT to leave a message, when you hang up your phone will immediatly ring. If you answer it they know they got the right number. Clever B*$%ards.

141 isnt much use, my mobile used to have 'super calling line id', set up by a mate from cellnet, it meant that you couldn't hide your number.

Thanks for the replies guys. Ive read the Grumble text messages. They sound like the type of company that (eg) will buy £2000 debt off a company for £1000, then try and recover it with charges to get £3000 back. This way they have a bit to play with and hence can afford to send letters to loads of people who may fit the description from the electoral register. i was tempted to call and ask them to give me details to confirm rather than me actually telling them anything. To be honest iam confident i have nowt to worry about (unless ex wife has stitched me up!!!). Only thing i could have been caught out with is when paying off credit cards in full but maybe inadvertantly leving a £1 balance or so when interest is added later.

I didnt realise the name Sebastian Jennings was a code for the nature of their investigation - thanks for that. Sneaky or what!

What iam conscious of is that other people with same letter may have already called and eliminated themselves from the enquiries leaving me on a potential shortlist in the near future.

I hate this sort of thing. Im the sort of person who would crap themselves at the sight of a copper even if totally innocent.
