Tin Top airbag light
Can anyone out there help me?
I have a peugeot 406 2.0 petrol (no jokes please) roadcar and the airbag light is flashing. The light has never worked since I have had the car (8
monthsish). I now know why - there was no bulb, presumably taken out because it was flashing.
If I leave the bulb out, will it fail MOT?
If it will fail the MOT, what the hell do I do to get it to pass? I am assuming it is not fixable on the basis of cost.

If u unplug the seat belt pre tensioners in the front and turn the ignition on for a minute. turn it off and plug everything back in. Then turn it
on again. It usually puts the light out. Often caused by someone kicking the wires under the seats.
A pug dealer told me this and its worked on all the peugeots and shitreons ive had like this.

Try it again with the ignion off and key out of the ignition (don't take chances with airbags and pretensioners) clean the connection with
switch cleaner or WD4 then unplug and plug a few times. Usually more than one conection under each seat -- one for airback and one for the
pre-tensioner. Don't know about pugs but Rovers get the same problem at around the 18 months to 2 year old point apparently the foam in the
seats slowy emmits vapours that cause a film to build up on the connectors.

They would never check the bulb during an MOT test so if you leave it out or leave it in but break it!! you'll be fine. Best to get it checked
out though you dont want to find out the hard way that the airbag wont deploy............

my sons saxo had an airbag light that kept coming on - that was the pretensioner connectors under the seat too. I gave them a good clean and scrape to
remove any tarnishing, and the faults not been back for a couple months.
Nice to know that when you need them in a crash, cheapo connectors may not do their job.

I will try again tomorrow, thanks for all your help, keep you posted. Very relieved to read it wont fail.
You may see another 406 electrics problem posted tomorrow, it is frightening on the electrical side. And on the fuel consumption side. Absolutely
beautiful drive though, if a bit lazy, so smooth.

at the mot station yesterday was a chart,it listed airbag light of the major makes and how long before it should go out,i suspect therefore it is a
legal requierment
who cares who wins

If its that old the odds are it is the rotary coupling behind the steering wheel basically it is just a large sprial spring so obviously tey
eventually fatigue and break. Remember to disconnect the battery for ten minutes before even looking at it.
If you think the electrical system is complex on a 95 car you want see just how complex the system is on newer luxury cars.

I would like the bags to work come sale time, but for now it seems the airbags form no part of the MOT. Thank goodness for that, I was seeing half
the cars value going to pay for an auto electrician (probably about £100) to fix something I never want to use.
On to the handbrake.
