I get that, but I thought the idiot died, hence the title of the video clip.
If he had only been injured then he may only have been a nominee for a Darwin Award.

It would appear that this one is out to tender at the mo. But my feelings are that the car wasnt traveling fast so he just got squashed for a time.

Here is the extract from the Darwin website
Italian AutoCross (amended)

2005 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance
In an autocross driving event, you drive your car around a course laid out with traffic cones - aiming to beat the times of the other contestants. Generally it's an event for amateur car enthusiasts and it's designed to be as safe as possible.

In this particular event in Italy, the driver completed the course - and was so pleased that he decided to 'lay down some donuts' - spinning the car around in ever decreasing circles generating clouds of acrid smoke in the process.

Clearly, this guy was determined to show how heroically he'd completed the event.

But not getting the crowd reaction he'd hoped for, he either set the cruise control or wedged the gas pedal somehow, and with the car still doing tight lefthand turns, opened the car door and stepped out of the car - with it still turning donuts.

As he's standing there with his arms over his head, taking in the presumed adulation of the audience, the inevitable happens and he's broadsided by the car door, knocked to the ground and run over by his own car.

The front left wheel rolled over his torso - but then his entire body jammed under the car. The car was lifted sufficiently off the ground to stop it.

So, he's squashed beneath his own car lying in a cloud of burned tyre rubber.

In the video of the event, you see people rushing to his aid, rolling the (still running) car off of his mangled body - and the subsequent arrival of the ambulance.

It's not clear whether he died or not - but from the early reactions of the crowd of helpers, it doesn't look good. Most people did not attempt to revive him - stepping back in horror.

(Apologies to moderators for poor explanation on first submission of this story - I really think it's worth the effort to download the story - it's a heroic effort of one arrogant showboating idiot to remove himself from the gene pool - and the proof offered by the video is more compelling than mere words can offer. Apologies also for my slow server...if you'd like me to email the video or post it someplace else, please feel free to let me know.)

Evidence (in the form of an eyewitnesses video) can be found here:

From that clip it seems pretty much impossible to tell whether people tried to revive him. I was under the impression he survived though, as I've seen this clip on a few websites which, although they like to post some pretty extreme stuff, do not post videos where people end up dying. A bit like You've Been Framed...
