Insulating garage door?
Has anyone insulated their garage door? Our new garage is one that's built into the house so is well insulated apart from the door.
The door is make of fibredlass, anyone any suggestions?

is there a return lip on the sides /top/bottom?
could rivet on some draught excluders and put sme insulating foam held on behind a net of wires/string or better rivetted brackets/hardboard..

I've got some 25mm polystyrine(?) on my door with a thin sheet of aluminium on the back to hold it all in. Used to have 4mm plywood but it was
too heavy so went for the alloy seems to work

As neds says, the first step is to seal the gaps around the door.
You can get stick on foam padding which would be ok. Or it you want to go mad fix rockwall batts (solid sheets) to the back of the door

I used the rear hatch seal from my donor Sierra estate to seal top of door. (Had to get my £39.00 worth!!!)
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want!!!

I used a draught excluder made for the side of a backdoor, it was just the right length for the bottom width of the garage door.
While we are on this subject, soes anyone know of a wireless, heater? My garage has no electricity and is about a 5 minute walk from the house... I
dont fancy leaving a gas one on in there while Im a few streets away...

dont they make paraffin heaters any more?
If they dont, perhaps you can pick one up from a boot sale or summat.
dont seal the garage too well or you will die of the fumes from whatever you burn

parafin heater - sure i read on here that this isn't a brillient idea as it creates lots of condensation.

Propane gives off a load of water as well.
Best to seal the draughts.. Gaffer tape over the cracks.. if you dont need to open the main door.
I have boxed in the entire Car port!.. got to take one wall out to relaese the viento into the wild for th SVA etc.

Parrafin does cause condensation but then most things will form condensation on them when going from warm to cold. An electric heater is best for not
adding moisture to the air. Using 1~2"polystyrene sheet from Wickes or somwhere similar would be best option IMO. None silvered for sound
proofing/deadening - silvered for heat proofing.
