Yesterday I bought

An Alfa 145.

I set out to look at two - both TS - a 1.6 and a 1.8.
Both went on sale yesterday morning and were sold by 11.00am so I looked at my third choice and it was in such nice condition I bought it.
It's not a TS though, it's a boxer...

Now, having fond memories of this engine in my '79 alfasud 1350 ti I had no problems with that, but it seems that certain members of the alfa community do.
Apparently an alfasud or a 33 are great (both boxer powered) and a 145 TS is great, but a boxer 145 isn't. (According to 'them'
Frankly - I don't understand. It doesn't have the variator / timing belt / tensioner issues that TS cars do and generally looks to be more 'serviceable' having a lot more room around the engine.

It sounds wonderful too.

Anyway - I'll be keeping the boring old Audi here for a while as well to see how I get on with this latest act of lunacy.

I had a black 'sud 1.5ti many years ago and it was a fantastic car for the time. It was far better than XR3i which was Fords current offering. It had twin 45 downdraught webers and an Ansa exhaust system and revved to 7,000. I loved the exhaust note, it used to rasp, a really individual sound. If only it hadn't rotted so fast .

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

i was gonna have a 145 as a co car in 1997. I test drive it for an hour, and reluctantly decided not to have it. Im only 5ft 9 and a bit, but those italians must have really short legs. the driving position and the passengers too was uncomfortable. Still went really fast. Nice car otherwise.

A friend had one from new. both front doors needed the hinges rewelding to the chassis as the welds broke!

I settled for a Maxda 323f zxi 24v V6 instead
