Car Transporter charges

Looking to transport a mini from matlock derbyshire to Blackburn, Lancashire.

has anybody used any good cheap transporters or better still anybody in the business.

do not know what the current fine is for driving a car with no mot or tax but i guess it is cheaper to have a car transported.

Thanks

It can't be too bad. I can get a car brought from England to Ireland for about £150 - £200 max.

I got a good quote from using this service:

It depends on who is going where but I'm sure you'll get some takers.

I recently rented a van trailer & straps for around £100 for a day + diesel & my time which I didnt think was too bad as it was on extreemly short notice. I doubt whether any additional notice would drop that cost at all though

thanks will keep on looking afraid no tow bar so hiring a trailer is not on, may just get a solid tow bar and tow the car back from matlock, or does the car being towed need to be road legal?

it does im afraid, taxed mot and insured unless its just being towed for the purpose of recovery to a safe place (ie off a motorway). Towing a car on a solid bar you would probably need the brakes working too.

actually that safe place bit refers to A frames, so im obviously getting a little comfused

Can't help with transportation costs but can you hire a car transporter in your area? Our local Willhire used to rent them out ? Have you got a mate who has a tow bar that would do it for you if you hired/borrowed a trailer? To use a dolly where one set of wheels are on the road is illegal if you don't have full insurance and MOT on the car being towed so don't use one of those.. What about fitting a towbar on your car? but bear in mind weight of trailer being towed.

I have never sorted quite how legal it is over a long journey, but if the car is in reasonable condition and you think it will be reliable, book it in for an MOT near the destination and drive it there. As long as it is being driven to a pre-booked MOT test you are allowed to drive without tax and MOT. Make sure the car is properly insured though.
