Kit Car Mags

Right...not sure really why I'm putting this on the forum but time to vent some rage! I went out and bought Kit Car magazine yesterday (£3.85 - rip off to start with!)....Now I know it used to be a slagging match between the two but I figured surely they've gotten it sorted by now and have calmed down...but no! the slagging match continues.....it was completely hurrendous with dishonest which twit (kit) this and pea brain kit that....would a load of rubbish! Even their article about the new spangley westfield with zetec power was ruinned at one point by them take the time to have a dig at which kit....then I flick through the pages and half the bloody thing is either useless old cobra twoddle (with 1 or 2 interesting photos) or bleedin adverts for fuel catalysts that magicaly increase the octane of fuel!! It's no wonder that they are selling less magazines now then ever before, they don't have any unbiased articles! Of course the worst offender was Big Ed (guy in charge of cobra mag) He actually resorts to name calling (Pinocchio) and says that he is drawing the "filby bashing" to an end...then goes on about him for two more pages! The whole thing is a big joke! Needless to say that I will not be spending money on either of the magazines again....and will continue with my subscription to PPC - at least they have proper articles! Oli.

Oh and by the way if either of the people responsible for the magazines read this - we don't give a toss who is number 1 in Britain - frankly if you don't get your acts together neither of you will be in business anymore.....and your all as bad as each other! There now I feel much better!

At the end of the day PPC is the only one worth buying!

I couldn't agree with you more. I blame the two editors personally. I've met a couple of the contributers/reporters for the mags and they seem pretty decent/normal kit builders. I feel pretty sorry for them because the magazines have been going from bad to worse over the last two years. I can't see them both being on the shelf in 2 years time. As you say, look at the competition, practical classics etc is in a different league in terms of content. Nuff said !

I gave up on which kit and kit car magazine last year. Surely its up to the customer to decide which is better and leave the politics out. Total kitcar is the way forward in my opinion.

Havn't bothered buting them. subscribed to PPC instead. There was never anything of any use in the Kit mags, they just seemed intent on having a go at each other.

I must admit though I havn't been as impressed with the last few PPCs as I was with say the first 12. The articles seem to be getting more for the professional rather than the home mechanic. Any one else noticed this?

Yeh the first few issues I got of PPC were brilliant, kinda of a utopia of poor man's solutions to make a pinto go faster, now it seems to be more of a this is the best company for this engine and what you wanna do is blah-blah-blah which will cost so many 1000's etc etc....what we want is an A-Z of how to port your own cylinder head with a pathetic dremel tool so we can all f*ck it up and have to go to a scrappy and buy a new head to fettle with! I'm sure they'll come round to this eventually....well if they wanna keep readers anyway or at least the sort who actually build rather than read about building! Oli.

Hurrar....

I find both these mag of little intrest,: there have always been more ads than articles, and little on "how to"

Practical performance car my choice every time.
Practical Classics also has good and interesting content

its does no one any good to slag each other off in print it just anoys the readers

as to cobras well i like them but £35k is a big slice of pocket money and with my record of going over budget it would be cheaper to buy an original

just thought i'd mention that they did a Luego build early on in the mag. (issue 5+?)
its very breif though, i wish they'd do it in more detail over more issues.

The kit car mags have turned to crap. If they only cost a quid it would be better best the best part of four!

I only just started getting PPC and it seems more in tune with the bloke with eight cars in the drive, none working and off to buy another. Me.

You can just brouse the web for info on kits etc.

I agree about PPC. I grew sick of the kitcar type mags ages ago and only bought them if i was desparate.

But i have noticed that PPC does not hold my interest as much as it did originally. The first few i bought i reckon i must have read them cover to cover then back to the start again. I put my lesser interest down to the fact that my car is now *finished*, but i am glad others have noticed this as well. On the other hand some of Dave Walkers stuff has been excellent as far as i am concerned, but there again maybe thats because my current project is concerned with MS etc.

Still the only mag that i subscribe to though.

Haven't brought any of the kit car mags for quite a while now , got fed up with all the bickering and ads which sometimes featured twice in the same mag . Subscribe to PPC but i'm finding it's getting more like CCC featuring cars that are not available/affordable for the average guy in the street . Februarys edition has a feature on a Zetec Anglia van , front cover says How to run a Zetec engine using a standard Mondeo ECU . NO INFORMATION ON HOW TO! so it doesn't even do what it says on the cover, perhaps a wiring diagram would be useful for those on a budget (most of us) . Rant over.

I have often noticed that the cover does not reflect what is inside the actual mag with PPC just recently. They mentioned an article on diy carbon fibre but seen nothing since it was mentioned. The first dozen mags were superb and if you notice ebay they command a high price. There does not seem to be the interest in the more recent publications.

Now heres a thought, how about Locost Builders Monthly! Full of informative articles for the 'Normal' builder of kit and race cars?

I used to buy mountain bike mags, land rovere mags and more recently ppc/classic ford but don't do so.

In most mags, there is nothing that I feel I need to know, and if I do need to know something, then posting on forums such as these usually gets a good response - answers my question exactly by people who have been through the hoops I am jumping through.

I have to say I am the same now!

Didn't renew my sub to PPC, got bored by the combo of bodging plus spending quite a lot or money.

Dave walker is a brilliant chap, but they don't feature enough on his stuff and he is too busy to write very much himself!

I get stuff on here, and I have a sub to Autograss Review mag to keep up with the goings on in my sport!

The Locost build was a bit thin and never got finished. The last time I was down at Luego it was sat in the back room still in its grey gell coat it looked like it hadnt budged an inch.

Funny people should say about the PPC content going of the boil I just thought I wasnt reading it as much due to working on the locost and surfing here But yeh now I come to think about it, its not what it was. So will I, wont I buy the next issu ?
