Door Frame

Where can I get a new door frame from without it costing the earth? The frame on the side door to the garage is rotting through and needs to be replaced pretty pronto...

B&Q want £50 for a frame kit...!!

wood is expensive stuff - you could look at buying the individual bits, but it might even work out more....

your local timber merchant should be cheaper. You could get a proper frame (i forget the name) but for rough use like a garage door id be tempted to just buy some 3x2 and hammer it in.

Door frame kits are about £15 at Wickes.
It's softwood and not treated but lag it in wood preservative and paint it well and it'll last long enough.

Use 3x2.

Soak it in cuprinol, it does what it says on the tin . Wood's not expensive round here, it grows on trees.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Steve, I think you've been looking in the wrong places in B&Q, we got a couple of their cheap ones for about £10 each. Yes I know my missus gets staff discount but not 80%!

Door frame

33x120 is a standard stock size predressed for door frame material, should be about £1.20/m.
Make a frame up on the ground, pack and square in the hole and then fix with hammer frame fixings.

If you can build a car you can do this.
