FAO Alan B

Hi Alan,

Saw your pic on the Wbsite probs section. Remind me, what CAD software produced it? Looked like a professional job. Are there 2D drgs underneath the 3D model?

Work-in-Progress: Changed to Zetec + T9. Still trying!!

Hi Dick,

I've been away a couple of days so only just read this.
I use Autodesk's Mechanical desktop.
Basically, (as with most solid modellers IIRC) you start off with some basic 2D shape (often called a sketch) as your base geometry then convert it to a solid by extrusion, lofting, revoving etc. then you add more features until you get the solid shape you want. In Mechanical desktop the 2D prints are then created from the model by fairly simple process, and the actual 2D drawings are pure autoCAD, which is very useful for me for sending to customers etc. without them having the model or sending big files.

Thanks for the nice comment, I am a mechanical design engineer by trade, but it is still nice for someone to suggest you know what you are doing...

Alan.

You've done such a wonderful professional job on your CAD work.

I just happen to need to redesign the Locost chassis and wondered if...

Dammit, you know how to get on my good side don't you

Don't suppose Jim McSorley's plans would help?.....probably not with you being an awkward non-conforming bugger (er...like me)

I haven't much time for major design projects....but anything specific help or question wise...fire away..

The engine's a lot longer than your average 4 pot so unfortunately 'normal' plans aren't a deal of use.

I'll be fine designing it myself, it'll just take about 3 years drawing it all out on paper (my prefered medium)

It'll get transferred to computer eventually though. AutoCAD most likely. Or ProE if I decide to teach myself how to use it properly.

Who knows.
