UPVC door and cat flap thoughts...

The house I am currently buying has a UPVC back door with some fancy mouldings on the bottom half making it impossible to fit a cat flap.

Can you route the ridges flat or are they foam filled or something.

Other solution is either a new wooden door and frame or more expensively a new UPVC door.

Cheers,

Pat...

Just found out that my magnetic cat flap won't work with a steel reinforced door.

Chris - she's a dainty little lady and we'd prefer her to come and go when she wants.

Any more thoughts anyone?

Buy a used door off ebay and sell yours on there, I put a upcv door into garage for £30 including frame and french doors in the utility room for £65 including frame. come on man this is locostbuilders.

Pat

The moulded bottom panel is probably just a removable panel - most uPVC doors are a frame with either glass or some kind of panel - change the panel for one without ridges and cut the flap into that - I had a similar problem in my first house - solved quite easily by a trip to the local PVC door peopla and about a fiver for a new bottom panel.

Or, you could try fitting it into the panel you've got and if you fcuk that up, then buy a new panel!

Regards

Wyn

Take the fancy panel out and put a flat one in then fit the cat flap although I prefer the litter tray idea, there's an evil black and white thing keeps crapping in my garden and killing the birds. He thinks I feed them to fatten them up for him.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Don't get me started on cats......

Keep it inside if you must have one. Don't fit a cat flap, don't let it kill nice little birdies, and don't let it crap in everyone else's garden but yours

OOPs I got started........

Ok I stopped now, calm, calm where are my tablets??

Yeah, my first thoughts were on the panel thing, but this door for some reason is all once face right to the edges.

Are there standard size doors so finding a replacement on ebay should be easy, or are they all different with different locks and hinge locations etc.

Im with mark on this one. Cats should have special collars that have built in Sirens and flashy lights when they gat more than 2mm off the floor. They should also be made to wear a special harness that ties their legs together and catches their crap when they are in gardens. It wouldnt bother me if they kill things for food but they just leave them whole round our way, ie kill for pleasure - is this really socially acceptable in this day and age. Dangerous dogs have to wear muzzles - Cats are far more dangerous - why dont they wear muzzles!!!

Last year i was greated with a dead woodpecker chick on the path outside - now that i was most upset about. Luckily Mr Woodpecker is back this year, hope same doesnt happen again.

I would never harm a cat - i simply couldnt as i like all animals too much but i do wish they didnt kill for pleasure so much. I know the squirrels are also buggers but at least they are wild animals - ie dont have a nice furry bed to sleep in and food every day.

As for the cat flap - my back door has a seperate bottom panel - god knows how you replace it though now door is built. I think it has seals like for glass. I bet window company will make and fit you a new one for cash.

We didnt get many Cats in our garden when Duke was with us. His departure is still sore. i wonder what would have happened if the cats drank the antifreeze instead of Duke????

I replaced the bottom panel on my UPVC door from a cat flapped effergy to a non-cat flapped effergy. I just dumped the old one... sorry Pat! Just measure the thickness of the panel (mine was 25mm thick panel) and buy a new piece from a DG panel supplier... we have two near us should you get stuck! If your door is one piece moulded - you're up the creek!

Oh and while we're on the subject - we have two Cats but strictly indoor one's as they are too precious to be allowed out - I have a busy main road nearby... rather have a Cat than a Dog anyday. At least a Cat hides it's c**p whilst dogs will quite willingly dump anywhere - some poeple (?) with dogs allow it to remain there too! BIRTY DASTARDS!!!

Reminds me of a story about a neighbour of ours who did some work on his house and allowed his 2 tonne pile of sand to block the drive for months... despite advising him to remove it a few times we eventually worked around the idea and just left it. We knew the local wild cats used to use it as the latrine - when he did come to remove the pile of sand it was hilarious watching him shovel and gip, shovel and gip!!! LMFAO!!!
