Is it just me...?
Or do other folks get all impatient and rush to get their cars to make a noise, and then to move......
I cobbled a load of old cooling pipes together so i could fill the engine with water, I bypassed the remote oil filter with some pipe and bodged the
fuel lines and pump just so I could start the engine. Well, I also twisted a bundle of wires together to make the ECU and stuff work and used the
jumpleads to fasten the battery on!
Once it fired and had oil pressure I had to tack the exhausts together. A couple of days ago, I brazed some old fittings together to get the hydraulic
clutch to work and fitted the prop using any random old M8 bolts, just so I could drive the car about. It has no screen, bonnet, nose and a petrol can
dangling from the roll bar and the seat is an old plastic school chair sliding around whenever you try to push the clutch in and the brake M/C is
still on the bench but at least it drives. Oh, and the steering column isn't quite fastened in yet either because it needs altering to pass the
tooooblar fannimolds.
You get the picture? I wanted to get it moving but I'll need to undo a lot of the work to put it right!! Thats if I remember to. I can picture
the first run out and the prop bolts snapping and the prop slapping my hoop as I try to get the steering to work whilst I furiously pump the hastily
fastened brakes whilst the battery heads for the foot wells and the fuel tank skates off down the road.
So, is it just me that does this? Or am I not quite normal?

Yep. Been there. I think you only do that for the first car you build though.
i'm not even going to say what I did before I had proper bolts for the suspension.

When i first got it to move under its own power, i felt it was a great achievement, i had bodged a few things to get there, but at least you know it
all works. I needed that reassurance, otherwise i may have spent ages doing it all right, found out it didnt work properly and had to take it all of
anyway.
At least now you can put the worry out of your mind and get on with finishing it properly.
I think i did it because its my first build and had taken quite a while so loads of stuff had just been sitting around.

But I have built loads of things and if they don't 'do' something, I get bored and start something else! I have three cars in the
garage, all started and none quite finished!!

I must be the only person who keeps finding other things to do because I'm too scared to see what happens when I press the button.
If I didn't have the SVA booked I don't think I'd ever start it.

I did the same thing for a while. It was a pushy mate of mine that led to the first firing, with no exhaust fited, at 2 in the morning. Great fun.

I was a bit worried, an engine i had installed my self, an ignition system i wired up myself and a fuel system i had plumbed in myself.
Recipe for disaster. Just made sure i had the fire extinguisher handy as was ready to cut iff off it it all went wrong. When i first started it i only
ran it for a small time as i kept on thinking it doesnt sound/look/smell right!!
I have done a fair bit of work on cars before, but it was mainly just fixing stuff that had gone wrong. Which isnt really hard as everything is tried
and tested by someone else.
