Marine Art

My Dad has a pretty cool life and i often feel very jealous.
He lives on his yacht (38' gaff ketch) summers in the states and winters in the Bahamas, he earns his money doing THIS

When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

No mate i don't paint, i inherited my Dads love of motorsport but not his artistic flare.
My creativity involves car and boat building.

I spend a lot of time on the water and its not very often you see paintings or animations where the sea and waves look natural and realistic. I think you need to spend a many days of your life on the sea before you really understand it. Hats off to your dad, even Pixar havent done it yet!

I love this one

Gotta agree with that statement.

When I was 13, we went to south of France for a holiday, staying with one of my father's client, a gent by the name of John Skeaping (sculptor and painter).

He showed us a painting of a boy and a horse in a stable, and no word of a lie, this picture was incredible. Proportions, details and textures all blended perfectly. I asked him how old he was when he did it!

7

I was 13, so gave up all aspirations of ever trying to paint.

Dad did his first oil painting when he was just 13 years old and it was really quite crap!
He often tells me (when i get to see him) that the key to being a good artist is to study your subject and that old favorite, practise practise and more practise.
He feels that his art only reached this standard about 10 years ago and that its getting better with every painting.

Thanks for all the nice words, i will pass them on to him.
Cheers.
