Tin top Q - Focus clutch

Guys, any ideas on my Focus problem?

When driving normally you don't notice a problem, but if you have the clutch pedal depressed for say longer than 10 to 15 secs it will gradually engage by itself...as if there is some kind of pressure leak somewhere....

I'm really hoping it's not the slave cylinder as it seems it's the concentric type which would need the box off to fix....

TIA for any ideas.

Alan

Definately sounds like a fluid leak or maybe air in the system.

Embarrasing follow up question.

Where TF is the clutch fluid reservoir?

it shares it with the brake master?
on the side
on the focus they have a hydraulic clutch bearing !
and they leak from time to time
try looking under where the box and engine meet ! to see if there is any fluid leaking out!
or check your master cylinder to see if it needs fluid!

if it does then i would say its leaking
and its a gearbox out job to change these little beautys

Fords usally share the MC resevoir with the clutch in a seperate comparment. I would say the seals are probably on the way out in the slave cylinder. Check the fluid level...

The other possiblity is that there is a little valve in the slave cylinder (on top of the gear box) which holds a certain mount of pressure on the release arm all the time, kind of an auto adjuster. That could be playing up, but i dont think it would cause that problem...if it is its only a £10 fix...

Cheers,
David

If it's anything like a fiesta, it'll be a seal going somewhere. Just hope it's not the slave as they are an arse to change, as the box has to come out.

Bad news...it is the slave cylinder.

Good news...it's covered by the warrentee..

Better news...I'm getting them to do the clutch while they have apart, just for parts cost...

Result...
