Excel Calculation

Guys,

I have a list of lap times that I want to put in a spreadsheet and then at the end add up to the minutes and seconds taken as the total.

For example: -

Lap 1: 32 sec
Lap 2: 32 sec
Lap 3: 32 sec
Lap 4: 32 sec
Lap 5: 32 sec
Lap 6: 32 sec
Lap 7: 32 sec
Lap 8: 32 sec
Lap 9: 32 sec
Total: 288 sec

If you divide this by 60 then you get 4.8 which is 4 full mins and .8 of a minute.

I want it in the actual time taken, which is 4mins 48secs (the actual time) - what is the excel calculation for this?

I am sure I am missing the point, but it's annoying me now!!

Mark.

You need to format all the cells with time in (the individual lap times and the total) as time:

Format->Cells, select Time, then select a time format and click OK

Alternatively, to get rid of the hours, do Format->Cells, select Custom, type in mm:ss;@ and click OK

You then have to enter the individual lap times in hh:mm:ss format (hours, then :, then minutes, then : then seconds). So, for your example, type 00:00:32 and hit Enter.

In the total field, put sum(A1:A9) (or whatever the cell references are)

Press CTRL+1 to get to the format menu.
Custom number format should be hh:mm:ss

And another version!!

I love a challenge so just knocked this one up.
Easy entry gives total minutes and seconds.

Just enter the munites and seconds down the left hand side andthe blue totals gives you minutes and seconds.

Summer's here!!!!
