What made me wince was the american saying that it's currently 1200 lbs, but the US production model will have a full roll-cage, airbags, front and rear crash protection and side-protection bars.

So they'll have to fit a V8 to carry the extra weight?

as far as I'm aware it already had al of those , the cage is just the chassis frame, the front end is designed to fold up and the rear engine section falls off in a crash. I also has only one door and I remember seeing a bar in there already.
