Knock sensors (GM X18XE)

Friend of mine has a '99 Vectra which is running like a bag of poo.
Diagnostics said knock sensor faults on cylinders 1,2,3 and 4.

However I didn't realise these engines had knock sensors and I'm buggered if I can find
one let alone four !

So is this function carried out by another sensor, eg crank or has the ecu lost the plot ??

Speaking of knock sensors, I have a wire coming off the engine sensor, labelled as such, that right now, goes precisely NOWHERE. Is it important? I seriously don't have any idea what it's for.

I know the C2.0XE knock sensor is in the bottom end, pointing at the crank.

Have you tried looking around the bottom end for it?

The cables could of come off or got pulled off. Hence the fault codes.

usually found in the centre of the back side of the block, just a single sensor.

^^ Ditto.

The knock sensor will identify the cylinder by the angle of the crank and relevant subsequent ignition angle.

Or rather the ECU will do that for it...
