BMW gearboxes

any ideas if a 530 gearbox is likely to be the same as my 328?

guy at work says he has one going spare. siad he would give it away free to anyone who buys his wheels. said i might be after a gearbox (mine sounds like a bag of spanners some times. think bearings) might be tempted to just swap it

he said to make him an offer, and he'll probably take it. whats low enough to not be taking the piss?

Depends on the year and models
most E36 328's had the S5D 320Z THD? which for the most part was the same as the E34 530 box tho later models of 328 '96' onward had a variation.
Should have a tag on it?

cheers guys i'll check today. cars in the garage for a few other things, will ask them to have a look for a tag. its a 1995 328. not sure what model this guys 530 was, but the box is in his shed, so he can check easy enough. if the price is right, i'm tempted to have it anyway.

hope you're right bmseven! could be on to a winner maybe
