how much would it cost...
how much am i likely to spend on a full sheet of 25mm thick plywood?
i think thats how thick the floors in the house are. they're crappy chip board at the minute. i want to do it with the biggest sheets of ply as
i can.
jewsons sell 2440 x 1220mm ply. mate works at jewsons too, but i can't ask him til tomorrow, i know the other insomniac types (like me) on here
might know

I've just bought three sheets of 18mm ply which is way thick enough for flooring and it was about £20 a 8'x4' sheet. Marine ply in
18mm was about £45.

this chip board was badly done (by YTS in the 70s i think) and the joins don't meet over the joists. you walk on it and the whole floor moves.
10 years ago, the kitchen floor fell through.
also want to replace it ready for my new speakers
http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR223844
want to strengthen up the floor for sound insulation, and for 'spirited mixing' when i get really into and start jumping about
i'll need to pull up a board to check how thick they are, but £20 for a 8x4ft sheet sounds good to me

If that guy with the tache is one of your speakers I'd let him fall through the floor. Personally I think he talks a lot of carp.

It meets minimum standards, barely. It's weak, delaminates and flakes apart when it gets wet, I wouldn't build a doghouse out of it.
Over here in Canada they use it for exterior cladding, floors, roof sheathing, pretty much everything, it's horrible stuff.
How long did your grandparents solid wood furniture and cabinetry last?, I imagine you've still got a few hand me down pieces around the house.
How long do you suppose your flat pack Ikea stuff will be around?

18mm ply is the way to go. Chipboard is rubbish, squeaks and the T&G joints fail especially in areas of heavy traffic like doorways.
