That pi**ed me off again.

After my recent post

http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/8/viewthread.php?tid=135679

Today i had an observation by the HoD.

She isn't sure whether my session was satisfactory or unsatisfactory because I wasn't teaching the learners, I was helping them with their assignments and was pointing them to the right direction on how to do find information on how to do it.

So no wonders why we have such useless members of staff. The people that hire them are useless as well.

with 100 jobs on the air for next year, I sniff redundancy.

yeah I hate it when I get assessed and haven't performed to a required standard.

The assessors are rubbish.

right?!

Lesson observations are very subjective! Are you in a school or a college?

Interesting - when I did my OU MSc dissertation that is exactly what the tutor did for me: how to find information, where to look, what's good info and what's suspect, and so on. I still had to do original work, but the whole point of an MSc course is finding out how to research and to prove that you can do it.

It's a shame that the schools and colleges at the lower levels don't understand that learning is all about finding data and analysing it.

I am at a college.

The fact though that i was telling the learner how to do things and search for the information, is not teaching?

I even told her that i am teching them to find what they need on their own as i will not be arround all their lives teaching them how to do things. In other words, teaching them how to be independant.

"This doesn't count as teaching. "

When I was a Head of School in FE some of the students classified one lecturers teaching style as FOFO (F**k Off and Find Out).

Proper supported learning is quite valid and the concept of 'teaching', with the teacher as the font of knowledge at the front of the class is somewhat out dated now, and has been for a while.

Good practice now is based around learning facilitation, which is what it sounds like you were doing.

When I did my CiTP this is exactly what they said.

strange concept but one of the tutors said "you cant actually teach anyone, what you do is facilitate their learning."

Apart from that,

The learners are working on their portfolio assignments.

All teaching has been completed ages ago.

Is this the same people that hired you then - you know - the ones that you say are useless as well??

I knew i had that coming.

No, these where not the people that hired me. As soon as i was hired, I believe they were that impressed that a bit later, the quited their post. (obviously they found me the replacement of all of them )

+1

No

I will not bother any more with my job.

Since i am not doing my job properly, all my assignments shouldn't pass. Hence why should i claim them as completed.

That will be something like £16k sort on funding if i do that.

+ all the assignments will keep me warm during winter.
