there is no hope for the roof, its asbestos so if he does anything it'll all get done (5m x 45m )

and thats only if the wall is worth saving.....

Call your insurers (they'll be expecting plenty of claims)

Yes indeed.

And at times like this, the loss adjusters will barely have time to wipe there noses far less get picky with claims.

Provided you're not outrages, they'll play fair.

P.S. Regarding the asbestos, we all know that has to be done properly by a licenced contractor.

However.

If you try to get the whole roof done because of this, the loss adjusters may get sticky over this bit, due to what they are likely to perceive as a significant degree of 'betterment'.

Just be wary of that, is all I'm saying.

Cheers

JF

When Chuck Norris falls in water, Chuck Norris doesn't get wet. Water gets Chuck Norris.

No it doesn't (not round here anyway).
Double wrap in polythene & into the closed skip marked 'asbestos' at the tip/recycling centre.
Take the obvious precautions about not cutting/breaking/drilling it & breathing the dust.

What kind of asbestos is it ? Crocidolite, Amosite, Chrysotile ?

Yep, neither you nor I know.
Nor does the OP know without proper analysis.

The following, outlines the law with regard to asbestos.

Asbestos Products

Asbestos products can be classed as 'licensable' and 'non-licensable' materials depending on the application. The table below indicates the designation of each material:

Licensable Products

Asbestos Insulation
Sprayed Asbestos
Asbestos Insulating Board (AIB)
Textured Coating
Asbestos Rope (as Insulation)

Non - licensable Products
Asbestos Cement Products
Asbestos Gaskets
Floor Tiles and Adhesive
Bitumen
Mastic containing Asbestos

When Licensable products are identified by way of asbestos survey, 14 day notification to the Health and Safety Executive will be submitted prior to any works being undertaken. That there is the critical bit.

I'm pretty sure that by posting the above, I'll come across as a know it all tosser.
Unfortunately, I know very little about this.
what I do know is that you don't muck about with asbestos and you most certainly don't muck about with the HSE.
Not unless you like prison food.

I'm done.
Hope everything works out with the old fella's roof

Have lived with AC from when I was a nipper as dad worked for Everite and Turner in Southern Africa.
We installed roof sheets, plant pots, rainwater goods, window sills , as well as wall claddings ect in many places..

A seven owner we know has showed us how to remove the stuff as he does it for a job.....full ppe, low pressure cloaking and full wet down.
Spray all the AC with a thick viscous soap fluid before breaking up and placing in sealed and marked bags....

don't worry about the asbestos - its only some cement roof sheets (of some 80 year vintage) this shed is a small part of what there used to be

he's talking about re-roofing the back bit that I was using - but in steel with a steel frame to hold it
