dodgy or not?
I advertised my car for sale on findit and on kit car mart last weekend. I have had a couple of replys asking for the usual quota of pictures etc...
but i got this reply this morning - strikes me as not too genuine. What do you think?
Colin
Dear Colin,
Your ad, Formula 27 2.0 Pinto For Sale £4000, is being replied to.
Below are the comments posted in this reply.
Dear sir,
I am an international business man, specialised in
dealing, purchasing and selling of AUTOS.I also help my foreign client to ship
their autos to any place of their desired country or destination, most
especially EUROPE, cause i have a shipper who takes care of the shipment,
so shipping will not pose any problem.
Presently i have a client who has asked me to help him
purchase the item subjected above which will be shipped to EUROPE. As i was
browsing through the internet, i saw your advert and i will like to
purchase it for my client, but before payment will be made i need to be
sure of who i will be dealing with if you are going to be honest and
sincere throughout the transaction.
So to start with, signify your interest by forwarding to
me your last (PRICE) as well as your method(s) of payment through mail,
after which we can continue with the transaction and i promise if all
conditions and agreement are accepted and reached on time, payment will
be made out almost immediately.
Hoping to here from you as soon as possible.
Respectfully,
STEVE-NICHOLAS.

got to say, sounds well dodgy to me, makes no reference to the actual vehicle, sounds like a template that could be sent to anything. and for some
reason i am always suspicious of something like that with such bad spelling.
if you don't fail, you aren't trying hard enough.

no way, i would avoid touching this international business man with a barge pole, or smack him with it
if you don't fail, you aren't trying hard enough.

Tell him you want a cheque which will have to clear or cash. He could be money laundering for the Russian mafia or something. There is a scam called
the 419 advance payment scheme running at the moment where they offer to pay extra into your account and ask you to send back the difference to cover
the transport as it's the only way for them to arrange shipping.

yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I had the same type of eMail when advertising the Rover. Chinese bloke eMailed me with almost the same type of enquiry.
I emailed back the price required with no additional details and I never heard from him again.
He was so keen as well
Well dodgy in my book.
Cheers
Mark

To save the lads loading another page

says
WARNING!!! SOME OF THE ADVERTISERS HAVE REPORTED THAT THEY'VE BEEN RECEIVING MESSAGES FROM FRAUDSTERS - THIS IS AN EXAMPLE:
I am Mr Kim Martins.a sales agent located in the state,I will like to purchase your Austin 7 Rally Car .I saw the advert and forwarded you advert
information to a client who became interested... somebody pretends to be interested in the item for sale but states that he/she will have to get
his/her business partner or creditors to send a cheque for a lot more than the amount the item is for sale for. He/she then asks you to cash the
cheque and send the goods along with the rest of the money to him via their courier/shipping agent who will come and pick it up.
DO NOT ENGAGE IN SUCH TRANSACTIONS! THIS IS FRAUD! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
There was a news story that the cons had fleeced the yanks of thousands of four wheel drives that got paid for in forged bankdrafts. The forgers use
originals with fake bank details. The buyer gave the seller the draft and got the car he took it to the bank who accepted it on face value only to be
called later when batch processing rejected the draft as forged. Car gone with the buyer and seller left with a large headache and no motor!
Think that looks like a fraud report it to Trading Standards or polis they have means to deal with it.
