Didn't get the bast*rd job!
How does "You would have got the job, but you have had 9 separate days of sickness absence in the last three years" sound?????

pumel their heads in?
seems luicrous, that's nothing compared to some of the wee takers around here -and then there's those that don't even actually do
any work... (present company excluded )

It sounds like you've got a bad immune system
Anyway, just because you've been ill nine times doesnt mean you're gonna be ill another nine times necessarily (how do you spell it??).

It's that age old.....them n us......Office and shop floor syndrome...always get rid of the people that actually do the work to earn the money

Mark,
From your pearls of wisdom (no blue smarties in sight) can i deduce that you don't wear a tie and you're not a prick?

Pat,thats a dreadfull response from any company for not getting the job,its obvious man management skills are in short supply at your firm.
wierd isnt it,in the 70's a response to an employee like that would have lead to the entire factory walking out.

Was the sickness stress related because of the Avon building or working for the magistrates.

average of 3 sickies a year sounds pretty good to me. almost commendably low compared to some of the people i (used to) work with!
its such a nitpicky response i'd say that theres another reason for it, that they cant legally use. like 'the other guy that gets it is a
mate of the person hiring' etc..

What is amazing is that being off a day at a time on 3 occasions is seen as being worse than stopping offf once for 3 days!!!
A company i used to work for wouldnt pay people unless they were off for 5 days or more. Something to do with people getting drunk on Sundays and
stopping off Mondays with hangover. They just stopped off fo rthe week instead!!
Strange rules. Especially if you are off for one day then come back when not recovered to show commitment then get penalised for it.

couple of points here,
40% of absence is on a monday or friday!
(the other 60% is tues, weds, thurs)
The average is 5 days sick per year for office based employees
I wear a shirt and tie and look important

So that works out at an average of 20% Monday and 20% Friday, with the other three days running at 20% as well? So having a day off sick is as likely
any day of the week.

yep - but when you say 40% of absence is monday or friday people automatically assume the worst!
(guess who's company sent all its managers on a absence management course!)

Thats the most S**** excuse Ive heard Pat for many a day.
My wife was fired for being in hospital!
ANOTHER TIME SHE WAS TOLD YOU CANT BE ON HOLIDAY AND BE SICK AT THE SAME TIME.
I got a manger sacked when I worked for Macs flipping burgers wilst I was back at college. She thought she was smart when she gave me a hard time
everyshift. What she didnt know was I knew the regional manager on first name terms having worked with him ten years before.
Her career in fast food was cut very short.
But the one that got me was "How about a porno video of you and I wont fire you"
A complaint to the HR brought a responce that was very unexpected. They backed the manager!
HIS FACE WILL BE SORTED WHEN SHE NEXT SEES HIM.........SHES A KARATE NUTTER NOW!
The list goes on and on........ The rise of unions will return if you have management like this.
If you think its bad in normal salary jobs the females in the lowest paid jobs get it the worst.

If you're not white, gay and religious you could have had him on descrimination. Shame, but a fact of life. Very poor excuse Pat I must say -
but no easier to swallow. As a previous poster said "who would want to work for an employer like that anyway?"

possibly part of hte problem is that hte police have a real issue with sickness.....
now could that be cause they employ slackers or perhaps cause they are all over worked, over stressed and under appreciated?

3 days a year is a very reasonable amount of time to be sick on. admittedly you could take less, but 3 days is entirely realistic. 7 or 10 days i
would call idleness or selfinflicted (unless backed up by a real docs note), but 3 really isnt too much. unlucky.
