SPECS speed cameras
Ok so how do they work. I know that distance over time equals speed but if the cameras were say on a stretch of the M6 south about 25 miles south of
Westmoorland services and the speed limit was 50 for roadworks which were on through the day would the camera's be active at night at around
3.30am when there was nothing going on?
Also if you noticed after the speed limit signs that you had not slowed down to 50 quick enough and had passed the second camera and maybe the third
camera would this still be one offence or two offences?
Just theoretical of course you understand. Do they take photo's or are they just just npr. If three employees were in the vehicle and no one
could remember who was driving at that point and the transport manager could not supply a name to the offence what would happen?

IIRC - the transport manager is liable if he/she cannot provide a named driver?
Best thing to do - is find a local refugee or Kosovan - slip him £30 and he'll take the points - that's what we do in P'borough -
where we are inundated with them... It's about the only thing they are useful for at the moment :-)
You still have to pay the £60 though - so it ends up being
£90 and 0 points, which is much better than £60 and 3 points

Pretty sure its one offence.
The transport manager has to name the driver who is responsible for the vehicle.
The responsible driver then has to name who was driving the vehicle. If it was a private matter you can get off if you can prove you can't
remember (see ex tory Aikten & his wife court case).
With a company car, i'm not sure what the law is as the transport manager is involved and i think he has some legal responsibility.

would be cool to set up a website selling bags to put over gatsos, and have people send in pictures of bagged cameras, potentially could be quite
profitable if it took off and would do everyone a favour too.
you gotta love the forwrd facing cameras when you are on a bike, speed through them and flick the bird, quality. a favourite passtime of mine.

So if on that stretch of road there was say 8 cameras and you passed them all at a higher speed you would get £60 plus three points. But if you passed
the first and second while cruising from 70 down to 50 you'd still get the points and fine even if you passed the other 7 at the correct speed.
Jeez how unsafes that surely its better not to panick brake during busy traffic periods and cause a concertina effect mass pile up. Hold on though
that can't happen cause speed cameras are there to make the roads safer.
So if in theory someone gets a ticket will they automatically get the photo that goes with it? or will they have to ask for it first?
I spoke with a guy at work today who got a fine for driving in a bus lane in greater London of £150. He had proof that he clocked out and in from his
work place and witnesses to say his car was in the car park all day. He asked for the photo to pass onto the police for evidence that some one was
impersonating his car. He got a letter back to say it was a computer error and the matter had been dropped.

By the way I'm with you NSDev it's the first time I've come across these types of camera's. At night it the dark with only a
50mph warning sign and a speed camera sign which up until now has made me look for a refletive square on the back of a gatso etc. And then after about
400 yards a sign that says average speed being monitered or such like and then I twig that these columns I've passed while I've been
idling down to 50 are actually fcucking recording me as speeding.
If the average speed between the first and last camera in the set of 8 or so is 50 or less, but at one point it was 55 or more say, will I get a
ticket or not. How long can I expect to wait for a ticket? how accurate ar they and who sets up the distances between them etc? is there a margin for
error In them to compensate for speedo accuracies etc.
I been driving for 27 years and no fines or points or crashes and not even a parking ticket and now this shoite. I aint no angel like but I've
never been caught

ive been done in a company car and its very simple.
The lease company sends the NIP to your company, they then send it back giving you as the named driver. Then you get your copy. The ball is now in
your court.
I cant see how your job would be worth attempting to stitch up your company by saying its not you.
The 14 days counts to the first person (lease co or your company) - doesnt matter when you get it. The moment your company gets it.
SPECS works by number plate recognition, and computers dont go to sleep.

I've no intention of passing the buck steve, I f i'm caught it's a fair cop as they say. But I want the photo proof and not just a
computers say so. I was mainly concerned that passing more than one of these cameras in a batch would indeed be more than one offence as
theotretically you could lose your licence in one stretch of road which was not busy,not dangerous (as no one was working at the road works), not very
well lit and the fact that the average speed being monitered sign was well passed the point that IMO it should have been.
AND I WAS Slowing down gradually but not by slamming on the brakes on a motorway which was deserted pretty much at that time of morning anyways.

I have sympathy as until i was caught the other year i was 'clean'. At the end of the day we have a law, sensible or not, you broke it.
Now if you can prove that from the speed limit sign to the first camera was not enough distance to safely slow down you may have a case. Otherwise its
either slow down or accept the risk.
Me, i generally slow down and accept the risk that there is a chance i won't be paying enough attention and get caught. When it happens
i'll be absolutely livid ..... but, think about what i said. I'm driving a tonne of death and not paying enough attention to spot a speed
limit sign. Not really a good state of affairs......
(but don't get me started on the number of signs by the side of the road these days - its stupid! Best thing i did was drive my bosses car with
speed control, it won't go faster than a preset speed unless you floor it. You suddenly realise how much time you spend checking your speed!)

best of luck - saw someone in front of me get zapped last night doing about 45 in a 40, about 50 mtrs in front of me. i was slowing to 40 from 45 at
the time, and you still think, did that get them or me ...... but it was one of those truvelo things. Loop in the ground about 5 mtrs in front of the
cam. gives a prety pink/purple single flash it does.....
ive found my sat nav system to be useful loaded with the speed cam database it gives plenty of warning for known fixed, specs and mobile cam
positions.

if you drive through lincs, 80% of camera's have been set fire to, the locals put tyres over them fill them with petrol and let them burn

Whats the damage if your caught with no number plate on the front of your car? Mine fell off (No really, it did.) and i didnt put it on for about 6
weeks cos i couldnt find the screwdriver or something, nobody batted an eyelid, now, im not advocating breaking the law or anything, but since the
government have all the cops out beating beating up kosovans or generally doing other important stuff like catching nasty people, then if we (As in
the whole country.) just took our number plates off the front of our car, surely the roads would be a happier place?

Oh well a weeks past and no NIP but the guy that drove home got one from a mobile van ( 42 in a 30 ) strange thing is it didn't come
recorded delivery so how does this 14 day thing work if they've no proof you received it in that time?

Ther's no problem to who was driving the vehicle at any time. The question is if they only have 14 days for you to receive a NIP and they
don't send it recorded delivery how can they prove you received it. I'm thinking that if it arrived on say day 15 or 20 then your a free
man. What's everyones opinion on this as it seems to be a loophole that no-one signs for the receipt of the NIP.

they dont send it recorded delivery. In fact if it gets lost in the post or goes to the wrong house, they dont give a fcuk. They have to issue it in
14 days - if you dont get it its no concern to them. You are considered to have received it. Its the same with any motoring court documentation - they
dont send it registered, and if you dont get it, thats too bad.
If you really want to worry, you could have been nicked, it could be lost in the post, they will assume that you refused the chance to get 60 quid and
3 points, and you get called to court. Then if you are really unlucky you will also have the summons lost in the post, and not turn up, and they chuck
the book at you in your absence. If you are stupifyingly unlucky, you wont get or pay the fine, and you will end up with coppers at your door with an
arrest warrant.
As daft as it seems, the system could allow this to happen.
A user on this forum works as a court clerk - perhaps he could provide more info.

always guilty unless we can prove our innocence.
If they could only keep track of the common burglar/mugger etc in the same way boy would this government/country be rich

They presumably (sp) then could alter the issue date to suit there purposes as well
