Be carefull when talking to anyone over the phone, anything you say could be recorded and used out of context to 'prove' it was your fault.

I think wiring up a camera is a great idea, and would help alot in all sorts of situations.

At least your doors had impact protection bars (as seen through the skins of the doors), modern cars are so much more survivable.
