Why are we listing these cars? and more importantly, why isn't this in Car related?
Errrr, Fundamentally;
"Have I missed any others?"
Its called "Contributing to a post" and "answering the question in an attempt to help someone else"???
Why did you ask? - More importantly, didnt you read the original post properly?
Kindest Regards,
Richard.

Listing them outof curiosity really, Id been looking at a B5 A4 Tdi and after a friends experiences with his S4 Quattro in the snow decided that given
the option it was a sensible thing to have.
That lead me to the passat 4 motion, and I was aware of some of the others. If I do go for a 4wd diesel car, I want a car, not a "jeep" or
offroader sort of thing.

Have I missed any others? Not interested in pseudo offroaders like the Audi allroad or the Volvo XC90 etc.
Cheers!

I take it your looking at getting one of the above? my wife was given a 99 V 4motion Passat last year, and have to say it's absolutely brilliant
- driving it over the last few weeks has really shown the benefits of the 4wd - not the most economical being a 30V V6, but still above 30mpg most of
the time.
I used to have an '03 Passat 4motion.
Fantastic thing. Something as simple as a junction on a wet or even damp surface meant that you could use all of the power from a standing start.
What I like most that it isn't an in your face off roader, or even soft roader for that matter. It's just an everyday saloon.
No use for rock crawling, but I don't think that's exactly the point in this thread.
Anyway, if this was a poll I would be voting B5 Passat synchro / B5.5 4motion or Audi A4 Quattro.

we're getting confused between AWD and 4WD! AWD is only full time 4WD, not part time 4WD like some above!
Careful. 4 wheel drive = power to 4 wheels - simple as that. Many ways to achieve this mechanically. 'All Wheel Drive' belongs in the
same category of marketing waffle as 4x4, Quattro, 4-motion, etc etc, which mechanically mean whatever a company wants it to mean.

i know what you mean, but AWD is a defined term nowadays that means full time 4WD.

just crawled up icy roads at tickover
I put the ABS through it paces deliberately too and was really impressed
Same here ('00 V70 2.4T AWD). Had the car for about 6 months now and was already impressed before the snow came. I'm now VERY impressed.
You can't go far wrong with one of these IMO.
