i don't agree with speed limits, i ignore them practically all the time, same for traffic lights sometimes. if you can see there's no
traffic, the road is clear or its late night/early morning what's the harm in going a bit quicker. in my opinion when driving very quickly, as
long as the only person in danger is yourself (note, not passengers) then if the road is empty drive at whatever speed you like. i haven't been
caught, but have had a few clsoe shaves, catching up police cars @speed seems to be the recent thing for brown trousers. anyway, i know it's
against hte law, but like i said they haven't caought me, i haven't hurt anyone and enjoy the drive, i also know the roads very well that
i do drive fast on. another thing, some 30mph speed limits start so far away from any built up areas or houses it is ridiculous, I've hit 100mph
in a 30mph in a diesel before now and slowed down to under 40 before reaching any house, corner or anything.
sorry, got myself started there...
Ned.
At the very least Ned thats a rather harsh way to say thankyou to your parents for bringing you into this world. I am (fairly) confident they
wouldn't want to see their son being cut from the mangled wreckage of his car because in his considerd opinion speed limits were unnecessary and
he could handle driving faster?

I suppose that sadly, it's people with ned's kind of attitude that result in us all getting held rigidly to all speed limits by cameras
everywhere.

Ned - ever thought of taking up Kamakazee Bullfighting, maybe wearing red and being tied to a post in the middle of an arena?
I think it generated the response you so obviously aimed for...

Ok - perhaps Ned's usual tact and diplomacy failed this time round - but I'm probably just as guilty of periodic speeding on occasions.
There are some roads between home and my local station that are signed as 30mph, even though they are open country roads without houses, schools,
whatever. NOBODY does 30mph unless there's a police car around, so the whole thing's a bad joke.
OTH, if I'm in town or a built-up area I'll often do less than the speed limit - I drive according to conditions, but occasionally exceed
the speed limits when suitable.
Speed limits are a joke in Suffolk - on the same road there's a bridge with half a dozen signs on each side, and a 20mph speed limit. This is
because there has been ONE crash on the bridge and, looking at the damage, he must have been doing a lot more than 30mph when it happened. In the same
vein, Suffolk County Council have reduced the max speed limit on the entire A140 in the county, much to the annoyance of Norfolk who own the other
half.
However, in spite of all this ranting, I would drive SLOWER in my Locost due to it's uniqueness and high visibility - it's a police magnet
and bound to attract attention.
rgds,
David

Followed my brother once around the roads of North Yorkshire.
He drove like a tw@t.
When I questioned his choice of speed he replied "Its okay, I know the roads!"
This in my view is bullsh1t!! Unless you have xray vision, you have absolutely know idea of whats round the next bend or indeed what other road users
are going to do. I live in Norfolk where there are too many blind bends and farm machinery for my liking.
BTW, Mrs Tigere1 was a secretary for the traffic division of Norfolk police. She would type up the fatals and believe me, she used to come home very
upset with some of the incidents. Not always caused by speed either.
Just my 2p.
Cheers
Mark

I used to work with a secretary who was injured in an accident - took months to get right again.
Her daughter was driving, she was in front seat. Duaghter pulled out onto a road (country road) with no traffic around, then a car came round a corner
at ballistic speed and t-boned the car.

not that im saying I never speed....... its just that really excessive speed is outright dangerous, and to think individuals know best is assuming all
individuals know their limits. most dont.

Especially young men who think they know how to drive, like most of us. I'm starting to appreciate that I'm not nearly as good a driver as
I thought I was

here here blueshift, a few near misses can really open your eyes. i do as david says nowadays, often below the speed limit if i feel the circumstances
require it (bad rain, crowds on pavement etc)

when I was 19 I hit a tree in a mini. Over 40mph, car was totalled. Doors fell off (1965 minis did that kinda thing) and I was thrown out.
lost my job, couldnt walk without sticks (fractured pelvis) for a couple months.
Once you know how much an accident friggin hurts, thats focusses the mind wonderfully too!

Or costs!
I've had one accident- about a year after I started regularly driving. Caused by tiredness becuase I'd been up really late the night
before repairing my car after someone hit it and buggered off.
I'm in a traffic jam, merrily considering the world outside me when the cars in front started moving off. I started to follow but then slipped
back into daydreaming again- so didn't see the ones in front had stopped again until too late. Braked hard but still went up the arse of the
person in front of me and pushed her into the car in front of her. Was probably only doing 5-10mph at point of impact but it was enough as I guess she
didn't have her handbrake on.
Took ages to sort out and was extremely stressful. The driver in the middle sued for 3-4K for whiplash so the total cost was about 7K. My insurance
had been £750 and when it came for renewal jumped to £1800 with same company. I promptly left them but could get anything cheaper than £1100.
Ever since I've been a damn site more careful and my stopping distances have increased massively!
