With the alternatives out there nowadays you gotta be nuts to pay their inflated prices...

The thing is, people will still buy Robin Hoods because they just don't know any better.

More fool them. In the past maybe they were well priced for what you got, but now you don't get a deal more for a huge price hike.

Yeah right, maybe they should do some extra research into the market. Or even do any..

Cock off or cock on. You choose.

I am a former 2b owner, the reason for my choice, like every other RH owner, was very simple, it was bloody cheep!! I new it wasn't the best kit out there but RH were never about that, the whole reason so many kits were sold was because so many of us could afford to buy them. Now that the price has shot up they have managed to price themselves out of their own market. Now that i'm building another kit its gonna be a locost.
I was briefly tempted with the lightwieght until i saw it close up, and they put the price up.

Well I'm happy with mine...

Mine's pretty good, apart from the Zeemerides. Fast, raw, handles well (I do know the difference BTW I had a Mk1 Elise from new for a couple of years) and it was very cheap at the time. Sure, it was a PITA to build but that is the challenge. The best part is the owner's club, very supportive and friendly even if you do have a Vortx "Chassis #1, actually" instead of a Robin Hood.

I've seen alot of photos of Locosts which are finished to the most exacting standards, but how many of them cost £250 as suggested by the book?

Not saying anything untoward here as I'd love to have a go at a Locost, it's a real engineering challenge. But Robin Hoods, crap as they may be, are still cheap from what I can see. And the Lightweight looks tempting. I wonder how heavy the chassis is compared to a book locost?

Last thing I'll say is this : in an accident I'd rather be in a Hood. Take a look at the chassis next time you're close up to one and you'll see why. Preferably mine, because i strengthened the floorpan considerably...

No RHs should not allowed on the road full stop --

I saw the first Triumph Dolly based RH twenty odd years back I considered it dangerous and unroadworthy because of the front suspension which grossly over loaded its lower ball joint Since then RH have used many front suspension designs most of which have flew in the face of any known good practice being either eccentric or misguided.

Oooh, that is cruel.

I'll take the opinion of the SVA tester on this one. He told me it was one of the best put together kit cars he'd ever seen and certainly the best Robin Hood. Although you wouldn't think to look at it (it's not the best finished car for sure) but the additional work I put in to improve its safety and strength was noted.

Dunno about the earlier suspension designs but I cannot see much difference between my double wishbone setup on the front and the one on a Locost, especially if you're using Sierra uprights. There are one or two weak points but they are easily addressed and not design faults that would cause you to want to junk the lot and start over.

Wait a minute, that's a double negative!

To get back to the topic, I agree that is a lot of money for a Robin Hood! They're supposed to be cheap & cheerful!
