Autograss, great too compete in but I found it a bit boring too watch, great photos up there but they don't show the numerous heats of class
ones and two's (again great too compete in but for me anyway a tad boring too watch) that you have too sit thru before the exotic stuff starts
racing for around 2 minutes.
Yea it is a fiver too sign on but how long do you realistically get on track for the fiver ?
How much does it cost too be remotely competitive in the high spec saloon or specials class's.
I competed for years but got fed up getting up in the dark, traveling hours, than hanging around for 3 hours before a 2 minute blast then another 3
hour wait for another 2 minute blast then travel home and spend 3 days digging mud out of the car.
Its a great sport but I would sum it up as good fun if your into building and developing your car yourself, good fun too compete in during the short
races but as a spectator you would need an 8 hour day too see maybe 20 minutes of decent track action.
There now I better go hide, I'm still happy too promote Autograss from a competitors point of view but not sure i could recommend it as a
spectator sport.
Hi Jon!
Wondered if you'd see this one!!
Can't disagree with the neagtives from the spectator point of view, but there are a LOT of plusses too.
Yes, as big meetings the lower classes are very tedious, but then I just use that time for food and maybe a beer or two as long as I am not racing in
the near future
The big plus is that because the action is so fast and furious and the races are so short, if one race is crap, the next one will probably not be! You
can see the whole track very clearly so you don't get the feeling of a pack of cars whizzing by every minute or so like you do at circuits.
By way of comparison I went to watch the F1 v8 stockers a couple of months ago. I used to love these prior to starting autograssing............now
watching them seems SOOOOOO tedious! The grassers are miles quicker, as in MILES quicker, even that the stockers on tarmac, and the action is better
in autograss even though it is non-contact!
Yes, there are people out there spending vast sums of money in autograss, but then there are in all forms of motorsport. I can't compete with
them at the big national meetings, but I can give them a damn good run for their money, and can win at club level on a very low budget, and the same
free rules that allow the top guys to open their chequebooks also allow me to open my brain and think of new ideas to go a tad quicker.
No, it's not everybody's thing, but if you've never seen it, go to one of the big meetings and watch the specials race, I guarantee
you will enjoy it.
I love it, and so, it seems, do the other 4500 NASA licence holders up and down the country!!

Can't argue with that point, yes the big budget usually wins, but the satisfaction of beating those big budget boys in a bargain basement
special is very nice indeed!!!
The key is being smart enough to think of new ideas, and not just throw money at a solution.
