Dunno - there is some good 'pop' music out there now.
Hard-Fi are quite good, a poor mans was description i liked. I'll be interested to hear there second album. If they continue as the first
they'll run out of steam around track 4 i'd guess.
Bloc Party are very good. From friends who've seem them live they seem to be better in smaller gigs
KT Tunstall is very tallented. I saw her live about 18 months ago. I was disappointed with the album as live she did everything like "black
horse cherry tree". It was too much, but with a good producer it could have made an excellent album.
Wir Sind Helden as i've said. You have to excuse the odd track and perhaps i'm only a fan after a fab concert in a small place in London.
In fact it was just a fab evening so...... ignore me.
Madona - haven't heard the new album but i do like the tracks i've heard. I will be buying it.
Katie Melua et al - i do like this music. The problem is one person hit the big time (Joss Stone) so record company AR's signed up everyone
similar. Standard business practice ....... can't really complain.
Kaiser Chiefs etc .......... can't help thinking this is mostly in the same vein of music!

born in 81
i really like
Elvis costello
Nick Cave
who i both think are underated.
I saw an interview with Elvis costello regarding the state of british pop. I think it was with Jeremy Vine, anyway he was asked if he thought his
music would make it through todays pop climate should he be starting now. He honestly said no it wouldn't, he also said that if he was starting
out now it would only be a matter of time before he was up in the clock tower with a rifle!!
He's not everyones cup of tea but theres more to him than Olivers Army

I'm 43 and have seen hundreds of bands over the years from unknown punk bands in '77 through Queen (including the 'We are the
Champions' video recording), embryonic U2, AC/DC, Zeppelin etc and am currently enjoying the live spectacular that is Koopa!
http://www.ukbands.net/profile.php?id=15103
I don't have a problem with any music particularly, but recently I've watched Koopa struggle, after continual gigging, to finance their
own single and get it up to 40 in the charts. Meanwhile, Son of Dork (James Bourne, Ex-Busted) takes his new band (6 months old) into the ALBUM chart
with a clone of New Found Glory even down to the American accents.......
Now that annoys me.

It's all about making money. Because the Busted guy is well known it means that the record company doesn't have to spend out money to
promote him therefore maximising their profit.
One thing should be clear. The type of music is irrelevent. As long as it has been conceived and performed with thought and passion it should be
recognised as such, which sadly is not the case with the recycled bilge that is played seemingly on a continuous loop on most radio stations.
I also think that people who listen to only one kind of music are depriving themselves and missing out.
I listen to everything from rock to dance music. I have a preference for jazz and fusion but it doesn't stop me buying Beach Boys music or Chill
Out House and Hip Hop. As a musician it would be foolish of me to ignore any type of music because having a good knowledge of different types of music
has kept me busy as a musician for many years. I have played all over the world in Heavy Metal bands, Country bands, 50's
Rock'n'Roll bands, a Folk group, a Jazz trio, a Pop group and even an Abba tribute.
None of this would have been possible if I had not opened my mind to all types of music. This is only one aspect of it though. By openeing your mind
to all types of music you can learn about other cultures and experience different emotions, broaden your horizons and ultimately become a far more
interesting person.
So don't just dismiss R'n'B , new or old, as crap, avoid the chart and mainstream stuff and dig out some real R'n'B (the
new stuff I prefer to call New Soul). You might be surprised!
There is good stuff out there you just have to find it rather than wait for Big Brother to spoon feed you shite from the radio and TV.
Merry Christmas!
Jon

ok,i came across a little harsh previously. My album collection ranges from trance, to country, to a little jazz to even Elvis singing gospel !!!!
I have listened to some modern R'n'B and some of it is good. But it seems to be 1 song in 100 and when i hear 4 songs one after the other
in a club, well, i find something else to do..... like go for a walk, buy a drink anything but dance.

I painted my chassis with Blink 182, oh sorry, that's Zinc 182. I like Green Day and Franz Ferdinand and some of the skate rock bands are nice
and loud, I like loud these days because I think angle grinding has knackered my hearing.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Chris,
The "family" band that sung with J Ross was Anthony and the Johnsons - I have a CD and EP of theirs and whilst the lyrics are a bit
strange, the tunes are fantastic.
In fact I reckon I've listened to them more than anything recently.
As for kaiserchiefs, the first hit I thought was a rip off of Tenpole Tudor.

i'm not into incest or rituals involving goats or any other farmyard animals
i'll leave that for rebecca loos and some of the folk from certain counties (you know which ones)
but when i said i liked it a bit darker
i meant more gritty...with dirty licks ....
and yes i mean the music,
but i have been known to play the spam castanets
