..............or better still, a pair of ducati 916 engines with very limited silencing in the back of an autograss special, as used to be around in
the uk a couple of years ago (where is it now!?)........................alternatively, "baby growler" the twin v-twin powered class 10
grasser that I saw racing last weekend!......................then again the 700hp Ultima that I will be off to Le Mans in on Thursday sounds pretty
nice!!..............................come to that nothing howls quite like the ex DTM racing Opel-Cosworth 2.5 V6 that used to be in Andy
Burton's rally car, that was a treat hearing it coming through the forest.......................
Possibly best noises on one event ever was watching the Wexford rally in Ireland 5 years or so ago.............NO silencing
required.........................the sound of metro 6r4s chasing UNSILENCED, anti-lag equipped WRC's was amazing. An RAC official stood next to
us by the side of the road at one point and recorded 125db next to my ear!!!!
which leads me to the best of the lot.............................Top Fuel Dragster at Santa Pod!!!!!!!!!!!!..............nothing can ever sound
better than an 8 litre supercharged nitro burning v8 at 8000revs.

think i might have seen one of those as a cutaway in the coventry car musem...... the pistons operate at opposite ends of the bore and compress in the
centre. looks really weird!

Top of the pile for sheer chest pounding, ground shaking ability; a Top Fuel nitro burning supercharged V8.
Much less powerful, but equally entertaining would have to be the very distinct thrumming of a cross-over V8 (as in the rear of one of my Beetles).
The ultimate engine sound I will never tire of would have to be any four cylinder sports bike engine in an off-road buggy at full trot (with minimal
non-standard silencer), which sounds like a cross between a BDA and a stuttering motocrosser as it pitter-patters flat-out over uneven ground. Aural
sex!
Cheers, Rorty.
