Good to hear everyone's alright and things are getting sorted. Sorry to hear of the casualties and fatalities and hope this is the end of it for
a long time.

yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I just heard from my father that my cousin who just moved to london to work was on one of the trains. He is now in critical but stable condition, and
was evacuated to a hospital. He was in emergency surgery at 11:00 am London time, and was finished by 4:00 pm.
I have to say during the 9/11 attack on NYC, everyone in the area was super good about following instructions, and noone complained about the long
times to get out the city (took me 3 days). People were cooking food for the people stranded, hotel rooms were hard to find, and random people would
bring blankets out to people sleeping on the streets (me). It really showed that people are decent and caring, it showed the best of humanity. Through
all the bad stuff, pain and tragedy, the only good thing is that people were good to each other, and they showed that through tragedy people can come
together.
Best of luck, be safe, and our prayers are with you....

What I found was that people felt that the authorities at the station were doing something and that a plan of action was unfolding, even if Joe
Public didn't understand what it was.
I am sure that if the authorities hadn't shown a sense of purpose the reaction of the public would have been quite different.
Derf - I hope your cousin recovers ASAP.

David

got home ok - after i got out of the office! i walked out into an empty street in the middle of the cordoned off area, had to wait for the police bods
to spot me to direct me out as there was a suspicious package opposite that they were gonna blow up apparantly. wondered round the corner and saw the
remains of the bus before walking back to waterloo and getting a train which was all running remarkably well.
only down side is i may have hit a speed trap on the way back in the gf's car
Ned.

It's standard operating proceedure when something like this happens to shut down the mobile phone networks as the bombs may be remote detonated
using a mobile.
Also it gives priority to emergency services.
Who the f**K tightened this up!

An observation from across the sea: I'm am amazed at how calm everybody seems over this. The level of reserve shown is remarkable.
It reminds me of the way in which Londoners handled the Blitz of WWII, and the quote from Churchill: 'We shall go on to the end, we shall fight
in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we
shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the
beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender
...'
This probably doesn't need the American to English translation, but as a nation, you guys have brass balls. (just in case, that's a good
thing)

I am truly horrified at what has transpired in London. The hurt will extend far further than those who bled, so my heart goes out, not only to the
victims, but to all their families and friends too.
I think perhaps the one saving grace is the staunch British resolve - long may it live.
Cheers, Rorty.

And so it start's......

ID cards 'wouldn't stop attacks'
(says)Charles Clarke
Clarke doubts any measures would have stopped the attacks
Identity cards would not have stopped the London bombings which claimed the lives of 37 people and injured many more, Charles Clarke has said.
But on balance, the home secretary says, he believes ID cards would help rather than hinder the ability to deal with particular terrorist threats.
He also suggested that in future civil liberties may have to be curtailed.
so what he is saying is that the cards don't won't work but he belives in them anyway and that we are soon to be in a police state....
surely this is what the terrorists want, to distrupt our lives

Yup, I agree....so the terrorists get their way after all.....the 'free' west (UK anyway) will be no more.
It is a shame that the 'government' does not possess the resolve and backbone of the nation as a whole.
I cannot think how ID cards would have prevented yesterdays atrocities.
As for civil liberties, I think they are/have been taken away from us gradually for quite a while now Political Correctness is fine, but this
country's government has taken it to extreme madness along with some of our civil liberties already......IMHO

It's exactly what they want- generally making our lives more miserable.
If you look at Charlie Clarke's history he's spent all his political career fighting civil liberty encroaching measures- right up until
the moment of getting power.
