OT Passport office rant
My eldest son applied for a passport.
He has been living with his mates now for a couple of years.
Sent forms off.
1 week later gets two letters from them.
1 wants his mothers birth certificate, the other wants proof of his address.
He sends them mothers birth certificate and a headed letter from his employer and a copy of his rental agreement for the house he lives in.
Now they send him a letter to say they want to interview him at Birmingham
What does it take for a Brit to get a passport,??
Rant over
Steve.

Is it his first passport? As they all need an interview nowadays.... To renue, it is quick and relatively easy (7 day turnaround).

All new passport applicants need an interview since 1st January 2007., supposedly to stop fraudulent applications. Apparently out of 250k interviews
so far, not _one_ has discovered a fraudulent application, so its really a complete waste of money, although I suppose the interviews could be acting
as a deterrent against dodgy applications.

The wife missed Rust2rome rally last year because of this bunch of government clowns
Her passport was so well used that they thought it was a fake It was also because it was issued in JHB and not Pretoria ??????? It took action by
the local MP to intervene to get the passport.......two months after the rally.
Its a pain and very expensive

That doesn't mean there have been no fraudulent applications, just that they haven't spotted any. I'd like to see some before and
after metrics of fraud rates, which of course would exist if this was an actual attempt to cut fraud rather than security theatre to keep us under the
thumb and scared.
