"Our" Opel Kadett Turbo in action

here are some not great but ok vids of the "Retropower sponsored" opel kadett in action at USC '09 at santa pod the other weekend.

The times are slow..........but then so were everybodys...........usual excuses, but two things, one, the sierra has a genuine 425+hp, and two, listen the the lack of traction on the kadett, he was taking an armful of opposite lock at the 8th mile on some runs

6" wide road legal tyres are just not big enough, and I need to do more work on the 5 link setup yet, especially as we have 10psi more boost to apply yet, then 60hp of nitrous

All good though, and its a car I like working on!

kadett vs starlet

kadett vs cosworth

kadett vs pulsar

Hi NS DEV
sorry to go off topic a tad but you don't know where I can get a manta A/kadette GTE rear axle/diff complete for my chevette?

Finishing some building work on the house/garage and thinking of upgrading my standard chevette diff/axle before uprating the engine...

GR8 looking kadette btw. How many HP is it giving? What spec is the car?

NSDev - Apologies for continued threadjack!

AndyGT - I have an Isuzu Piazza turbo axle going spare that you might be interested in. Supposedly a popular choice for Chevettes - it's pretty much bulletproof, already has 4 link brackets and comes with a LSD. Drop me a PM if you are interested.

Tom

Me like
Always had a soft spot for Kadette/Chevettes having owned a few over the years.
Best two were a Chev hatch with a 1600 xflow and a 2door Kadette Coupe with 2.0 Sri130 Cav
power.
Neither as nice as yours though.

Also have a thing for the old Manta A, especially This One

I am actually after a manta a axle or piazza axle for another chevette conversion at the moment, funnily enough!

I have lots of manta b axles but none of the narrower ones!

That kadett in the vid runs a modified (my me) salisbury 4ha axle out of a reliant scimitar se5a.

It originally had a manta a axle in it but we smashed the torque tube, sheared the prop, smashed the diff, welded it solid then smashed it again, and broke 4 manta gearboxes, before I uprated it with the current axle, big sliding spline prop and omega mv6 gearbox.

power wise we don't know yet as we haven't done a power run with the latest map (mapped on the road), but with 8 psi less boost than it has now, and without the water to air chargecooler that is now has in addition to the intercooler, it was making 350hp.

it "should" now make 400hp, and has 60hp nitrous jets with solonoids wired to the ecu for mapped nitrous, plus it is only running 18psi at the moment and it is good for 28 psi.

Priority is traction though, having driven the car a bit it really doesn't need more power, it needs more grip. It will spin the wheels in the very overdriven 5th gear, in the dry, when it comes on boost.

Funnily enough the two commission projects we are looking at at the moment are a chevette XE 16v conversion and a manta a resotration and engine conversion!!!

ahhhh, that sounds a lot safer!!!!

I am a know nowt on US stuff, will do some research!!!

It has a Jag powr-loc in it at the mo and its just not aggressive enough, needs steeper ramps I think. it does lock, but takes too long to do so, and its rebuilt with new plates etc so not worn out.

thanks

Nat

well, a little update, we're improving!!!

The car ran a 12.00 dead at a rwyb at santa pod this weekend.

I wasn't there, but it sounds like its heading the right way.

I fabricated a full stainless steel 3" bore exhaust system from turbo to tailpipe last week for it, and its definitely quicker now (was only on 2.25"

It now actually uses the exhaust tunnel I fabricated last year!!!

The limits were once again found though.................

Head gasket is now dead, and clutch now slips when it comes on boost in 3rd and 4th, which is annoying as its a 6 paddle job with nearly double the std spring pressure

The head gasket was suspect anyway tbh, and I'm now on the lookout for a wire ring groove cutter..........anybody know of one I could borrow?

We've still got another 10 psi and 75hp of nitrous to go yet!

Few not great piccies of the exhaust and general under car murkiness (lots of oil leaking out, we've discovered that the omega box breather isn't too great, now its got a piped breather to a gearbox catch tank, only way we managed to stop it peeing out! )

all a bit flipping tight under there!!

slots nicely into the tunnel I made last year!

over axle jiggery pokery!
