OT Sony E reader

Does anyone on here know much about them? Easy to download books? is there a new one just about to come out?
My wife has just bought one at what seems to be a good price but is having second thoughts before opening it and setting it up, she does read an awful lot.
Thanks

I was very interested in this as a way of keeping manuals and for general reading on my work travels. I found the display of pdf's to be a little dissapointing though as it juggles the text to fit.

There is a newer version that lets you annotate and write notes which wasnt available in the uk at the start of this year. but was in the usa. also there's a newer one planned with connectivity like the kindle.

personally, i think reading books off an LCD screen would be worse for straining your eyes.
i read very little off the internet etc. if someone writes a whole long thing on here, i don't bother with it.
if i was going to read a book, i'd stick with a book.
not always practical to carry loads of books about (manuals etc) but then a laptop is easier i think

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

It certainly would! that's why the E Reader uses an electrophoretic display which is different to LCD and uses no backlight...

It's effectively the same as printed ink on a page.

SWIMBO just got one as she reads a book in about three days and we've run out of storage space. It came with 100 free classics (read 3000 page books) and she's already well into them. She thinks it's great...

I got one a few weeks ago, and its great - a few niggles setting it up with a Mac but after that, great. I had run out of space, and as I'm away a lot, can't take loads of books with me.

If you want to buy books, try booksonboard.com they are based in the USA and have a much better selection, you just have to use a PayPal account to pay, with an American address (can be anything).
