Do i need a toothed wheel?

I got home from work and went into the garage to have another go at getting the crank pulley off so i can fit a toothed wheel to go with my new efi but i still can get the b***tard off

We put a couple of bolts in two of the holes for the air con pulley and lodged a 1" steel bar against the chassis, got my breaker bar on the bolt but all it did was bend the bolts.

Put two more (thought were) stronger bolts in place and put an extension on the breaker bar, bolts just bend again.

So, will the engine run ok if at all without the toothed pulley?

Oh and i went to shut the garage door and the door fell ontop of the car
Luckily i was outside and i had removed the scuttle the other day otherwish it could have been alot worse than some scrached chassis paint!

The toothed wheel was on the engine i took the wiring from so the ecu will normally have a signal from it.

If i do need to use it, im open to any other suggestions as to how to get it off.

Heat up the bolt.... soak with pentrating oil.... heat it again... soak again....

(Dont get it too hot or you will melt the shaft seal though!)

Repeated heating and cooling and smaking with a big hammer might shake it loose

these bolts for the aircon pulley. Will the go right through to hit the block? if so can you not use them to push the pulley away from the engine...

To get the pulley off you must pull it straight not levering from the side. Either that or invest in a Pulley Puller like this.

Not sure if you mean the crank pully or the bolt holding it on.
If its the pully then go hire an Hydraulic puller from HSS

.... so these bolts were to stop the crank from turning as opposed to be used to wedge the pulley off? It's the way you tell them.

Is your problem stopping the crank from turning? Then drop the sump and use a couple of blocks of wook between the crank web and block.

Next step is to get a strong impact socket, six sided not 12 and a huge FO bar; - not ratchet - keep one hand on the socket part so it does not slip off the bolt, lean on the bar then whack it with a rubber mallet. Works best if you have 3 hands.

Priot to that, get at the bolt head/pulley interface with a scriber to shift any paint rust and apply penetrating fluid, the proper stuff not WD40.

Someting has to give in the end, either the socket/breaker bar snaps, the bolt shears or it comes undone.
