"An investigation was launched by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) as neither the pilot or co-pilot were licensed to fly but no legal action was taken."

I'd've thought being licensed to fly was pretty important to call yourself a pilot.

That would have been very scary if you had been on board for a display of 'how to taxi' this plane!

um... accidentally taken off whilst taxiing too fast..

Um.... ... ...... the owner of the aircraft and or the person who allowed those people inside should be fined and or jailed.

If they had taken off and accidentally killed a lot of people........ its not worth thinking about!

the co pilot wasn't a pilot, he was a engineer, and quite why he froze i have no idea, i always understood that the pilot throttled up and the copilots hand followed him?

Sounds like two school boys making a story up between themselves to avoid having their bottoms smacked.

No one was hurt. Why does it matter? I bet they had a right laugh and then had to make up a good enough story to cover there arses.

Whythe hell should anyone be jailed!? Is there not enough scum bags getting short sentancss due to overcrowded prisons that we want to arrest people on what "might have" happened?

Best lock me up now, as I "might" run round the office murdering people. I probably won't, but it could happen so lets all sit in cotton wool and just make sure.....

Does seem a bit odd that that you can have some retired old duffer and the chap who looks after the aircraft drive it round the airfield with thousands of people watching. You would have thought someone on board should have a licence of some sort that allowed them to drive something more than a fiesta.

In an interview on radio the pilot explained that by the time he had called to close the throttles twice, realised the co-pilot/engineer had frozen, the aircraft was above it's take off speed. It takes 2 hands to close the throttle and he was forced to take his left hand from the stick to do it himself and with no load or fuel on board it lifted off before he could get his hands back to the stick. He said he made a snap decision to land immediatly (on the grass) because he didn't fancy doing a circuit in a plane that hadn't flown for 10 years.
