Interesting places to visit ?

As I will be staying a couple of days in England before/after my visit to MK, I was wondering if there is something interesting to see/drive in the Manchester-Maltby-Leeds area ?

There's not much to see in either Manchester or Leeds to be fair, and certainly nothing of interest to see in Maltby
But between them you have the peak district national park is worth a visit, and around that area you have Bakewell,Matlock and buxton are all old towns worth a visit, the peak district also has some of the best driving roads in England
To the right of leeds you have the very old city of York, now that is worth a days visit, lots of history, plenty of museums, etc.
Then just down from Maltby, you have Nottinghamshire,Sherwood forest,Robin hood country, the major oak,Clumber Park etc,so there's plenty there to keep you busy for a couple of days, enjoy

There's a nice sign on the outskirts of Manchester that says "You are now leaving Manchester" which is nice to see.
That or the huge lettering on the road in that says A580 and looks like the word ASBO in giant letters so you're in no doubt as to where you're heading

Just down the road from Maltby is Conisbrough Castle which has the best kept Norman keep in Britain. Well worth a visit.

As has been mentioned, MOSI is pretty good, with a variety of industrial history and the attached air museum. There's also the Imperial War Museum North, but I've not been for years and don't know what it's like now.

There's the grounds and museums of the various football teams.

If you're travelling with a wife/girlfriend, there's the Trafford Centre - leave them there and go off where you want!

The Peak District national park and the Lake District are not far, both with plenty of places to visit.

The Anderton Boat lift, Chatsworth House and the East Lancashire Railway are in the area.

If, on your way elsewhere, you want to see an oddity that's not a tourist attraction and has nothing else there (no visitor's centre or anything) there's the Barton Swing Aquaduct - it's the only one of it's type in the world.

Bradford has the National Media Museum.

Hmmm, as I live here, I really should visit some of these soon!!!!
