Used damaged cat
When i broke my CLio, i kept the cat as i knew it was buggered.
I had seen someone on Ebay buying old used cat converters but i have lost the link.
What can i do with it insted of sending it to the tip?

Take it to scrap metal merchant, apparently some can fetch up to about £50.

It depends why its knackered.
If its knackered because it no longer does its job then its worth diddly squat and the scrap merchant willl know so.
If its knackered because its become broken inside etc then it may be worth £25 or so as it a will be a small one from a clio.

A scrap metal merchant (as opposed to a car scrapper) will want it for the platinum etc inside it....

^^^^^ exactly, if it has expired due to old age then there will be little or no precious metals left in it and they will know by weight, if thats the
case and offer you nowt for it.

Really? Does all the platinum shoot out of it's chuff then? Always assumed it just got clogged up hence the cataclean type cat rejunivators...

Yep straight out the chuff!
There have been studies that show that in certain high static traffic areas of cities it it actually worth weighing in the road debris/dust collected
by the road sweeper machines because it contains a relatively high proportion of precious metals.
many firms have dedicated vehicles that clean these areas and then they filter their contents and weich them in.
Crazy hey!

In addition to this the land rovers we break at work have hugely different weights of cats on them, often made by the same manufacturer just one far
higher mileage then the other or one is evidently newer judging by the shinier outer metalwork.

Well, as far as i know, the clio would fail MOT on emissions.
The car had 128K on the clock.
