Motorised flat screen TV

These have been out for some time but attached to over priced furniture. I was in M&S the other week, they had a leather sleigh bed on display. I thought the footboard looked quite thick. Closer inspection revealed it had the motorised flat screen lifting gear inside ready for a 32" TV to be fastened to. This got me thinking about DIY ideas. Ive thought about making the lift gear before but decided it wasnt worth the effort, didnt want to wreck the TV and they will be for sale one day. So....

... has anyone ever seen the lifting mechanisms for sale anywhere at a reasonable cost?

Cheers,
Darren.

They are the type of thing ive seen when googling but look quite expensive. There must be some people importing them by now at reasonable cost.

use a sat dish actuator they are low voltage but have a large range of sizes. They also have control gear that you get to manualy control the unit

I was thinking the same a few months ago... saw the sleighbed, but ruled that out as I like to dangle my feet out of the end of the bed

The started thinking of all sorts of Heath Robinson idea's... but eventually settled for placing the telly on a chest of drawers in the corner! Simples!

There must be a way to make a manual one. Rack and pinion style with a hand crank. Needs to be able to hold itself in position (ie as opposed to dropping itself back down and smashing the TV!)

Maybe a cable wound one using pulleys. Hand crank to start with, upgrade to electic motor at a later date.

That is a great idea but i think id find it difficult to watch the TV while its moving from side to side in an arc. Plus it would be annoying when the kids work out how to work the squirters while you are sitting on the sofa
