Just goes to show you can't trust the news
You probably can't fail to have noticed the latest media "anti-social behaviour" frenzy regarding Bardon Road, in Barwell.
Well those that know me know that is my road, the first road into barwell on the mallory park side.
I am so fed up with the ridiculous media coverage of this.
I see the Sun has now pictured a young lad from our road branding him many rather unpleasant things.
I for one will be dropping a note of support off to his family.
I think they have been unfairly blamed for things that just don't exist in reality. I know the lad pictured quite well, as I seem to be his and
his mates' local mechanic for their push bikes. They are a friendly bunch, if loud and boistrous. They have never done ANYTHING to upset me or
my neighbours, and yet I hear a couple of whining old women on my road whingeing about them constantly.
One of them is the one who kicked most of this off with the media, having been paid for her story.
I wonder if she has considered two things, 1) that if the family who killed themselves were that threatened, then why didn't she, as their
nearest and aparently most caring, neighbour, do something about it and 2) what she could now have done to the life of the lad who is now pictured in
the papers.................
I am furious about the whole scenario.

You mean there isn't a gang of angry and abusive teenagers on that street every night of the week making a fuss, banging on doors and harassing
people, damaging their cars and being a general nuisance?

well you've never come across as anti-social to me .
I agree, the news is a crock of sh*t, my area of contention with todays papers is the death of the young girl after a vaccination - whipping up yet
another MMR poostorm.
Back to the point though, in these circumstances you have to consider the response as well as the cause. If I was at the end of my tether I
wouldn't kill myself and my child. The mother and possibly daughter clearly need more support, and the situation is tragic, but the media
can't place blood on peoples hands

I know nothing of the stories so cant really comment. If there is vandalism going on and its been proven (not heresay) that it that gang of youths
then everyone has the right to complain. If its not been proven then they have to be given the benefit of the doubt.
Playing devils advocate though maybe these kids show a different side to you as you help them out?
But I dont pay any attention to the news/media because they seem more interested in hyped up stories and scaremongering than actually informing the
public these days.
As for old biddies complaining, there are some in every area I think.
And I agree with cd.thomson about the family who killed themselves. Obviously in need of some additional support somewhere along the lines.

The newspaper business is exactly that; A business that needs to sell papers and to that end they're not going to let the truth get in the way
of a good story. Even if they are found to be making it up, all they have to do is print a retraction somewhere in amongst the small ads.
Did you see the "Terrorist hit list of prominent British jews" including Sir Alan Sugar that appeared in The Sun last month. Suposedly
leaked by MI5...They eventually had to admit that they'd made the story up.

I just saw a news presenter interviewing a doctor and asking if he was worried that all the media coverage would damage vaccination take-up. I thought
the doctor did particularly well not to scream 'WHY DON'T YOU SHUT UP ABOUT IT UNTIL WE KNOW THE FACTS THEN'
Anyone who reads football news should know that making things up is par for the course, particularly for newspapers. The credit crunch really hit
football journo's hard, with clubs not buying anywhere near as many players as usual this year they really had to stretch their imagination to
the limit to make up enough transfer rumours to fill the column inches.

All the evidence since does seem to show that the MMR scare was a case of flawed conclusions and there was no good reason not to give kids the MMR,
but we have gone the single vaccinations route (damned expensive at £135 per injection, 3 injections per child and 3 children). This is because my
wife worked with two women, each of whom had a child that was developing normally, beginning to speak, etc., had the MMR, developed a fever within 24
hours, went floppy, took a week or so to recover and had regressed significantly - both these children were later diagnosed as autistic. Whether this
was coincidence or not, we do not know, but it is quite worrying.

Like GM (OK, not Vauxhall), I seethed as a fellow 'scientist' fed rats nothing but GM-modified potatoes.... demonstrating absolutely that
rats don't thrive on a diet of potatoes.... interpretation of the results by the 'scientist' and the media were quite incredible.
