Banger Rallies?
Anyone know of a definitive list?
Anyone ever done one?
I was looking at staples2naples but the entry slots filled in about 5 minutes so needless to say I didnt get one!
Anybody know of anything similar one could get involved in in the next 12 months?
Cheers

I did the Ramshackle Rally to Valencia in August this year with a mate, this is their site:
http://www.ramshacklerally.com/
They do 3 rallies each year & seemed pretty well organised, we had no problems with their set up but it was our first so we've nothing to
compare against.
Here's a few points for you to think about that we found on our trip:
We needed to get on the road sooner each day than we did, this would have given us more time to do the challenges, have a more relaxed drive &
given us time to take alternative routes by-passing the toll motorways which turned out to be a major expense.
With only 2 of us we could only split the entry fee/fuel/tolls/ferry 50/50 which made it an expensive weeks holiday for us, the more of you go the
cheaper it gets. But on the other hand it's a long journey in the back of a car.
Pick the right car! I think we got it about right for us, an Astra 1.8 sport which had loads of room for just the two of us & all our gear &
plenty power without being rough on the fuel. Some big old Merc or BMW sounds just the job but if it's doing sub 20mpg it'll sting you in
the pocket badly when a Euro/Jap saloon or estate would do 30+mpg. Do a good decorating job & the boring car underneath would'nt matter at
all!
On the other hand if there's 4 of you in a Renault 5 then 3 of you will have to get out & walk so it can make it up the mountain passes! One
team apparently did just that to get up the Little St-Bernards pass.
Do a decent prep job on the car, we probably over did ours but we brought it back home! Another team in a 5 series beemer had a problem with over
heating in traffic jams but did'nt bother sorting it as is they just stopped the engine if sat still for more than a couple of minutes. The
viscous coupling in the fan was stuffed & it fried going up the first pass & they wer'nt seen again, an electric fan lashed on the front
of the rad would have cost pennies & sorted it if they were too tight to get it fixed properly!
Take a decent sat-nav, seems like cheating I know but we did it without & without the help of a fellow team we'd have really struggled in
the towns. It'll save you much time finding your hotel & frayed tempers too!

We did CzechWrecks, organised by Street Safari (they are one of the biggest organisers). I would be happy to talk you through our experience if you
are interested?
Just be aware, that getting bangers across Europe, and doing all the entertainment etc soon adds up. Ours cost us nearly £2.5k for 4 days!

So, having had a bit of a browse:
Rust2rome starts in Scotland which is nice, bu is quite expensive at 580 entry for 2 people. that said it does include clamping and the ferry etc.
czechwrecks is run by the same crowd as staples to naples and is a 200 team entry which doesnt include anything that Im aware of?
ramshackle rally covers three events per year the valencia on being £240 for two people. NO mention of anything included or otherwise.
The last scumball seems to have been on 2008?
ad I cant gt onto the barmy rally webpage till Im at home.

If I recall correctly the Ramshackle price of £240 is for 2 people which was the minimum team size, but more team members were much less, mabye £40
each?
It did'nt include ferry or hotels but they did give links to suitable hotels & a discounted ferry rate.
You did get for your money a "rally bible" which had a fair bit of info about the event, a venue organised each night in a bar for
drinks/party, & decent prize money for those talented/committed enough for the challenges.
We certainly did'nt feel short-changed & did'nt begrudge the entry fee.
I dont think you're going to go far wrong though if you go with an established organiser & you're looking into it properly too.
The entry fee is'nt really that big a cost though, I dont know how Twybrow's costs break down but for the 2 of us I think it'll be
on the wrong side of £1500 & we did'nt get rolling drunk each night or stay in fancy hotels!
