drift cars

was talking to a guy at work about skylines. he's got a subaru.

he said he saw 4wd subaru for sale, the guy said it was modified to be a drift car, and to make it rwd, he just removed the front driveshafts. we weren't convinced this was a great idea.

just a curious question, what would this do to the car? my guess was a lot of lost power out the front end, and a knackered centre diff after a very short time

Center diff has to be locked, you can buy parts to do this for the Imprezas I think.

I had one too which I use to race on an indoor hall, have to say it was great fun and some days pure carnage with parts strewn across the floor. I mind one car flying past my face then hitting a wall about 2m off the floor we were all rather crazy drivers only gave it up cos it was talking up all my time

I remember one ebay advert sayinf an xr4x4i could be converted to rwd by taking the front driveshafts out.
Yeah right, if the viscous centre diff coupling failed by siezing then yes.
If there is a torsen centre diff in the imprezza you will have no power at the rear wheels.

...but it's an Impreza. They've all been thrashed...

could have either a "viscous" centre diff, if so, then i dont see it lasting long or working properly at all.

or it will have the STI "DCCD" centre diff which can be locked to the rear using the
switch it comes with.

i do have a link to modding the gearbox to rwd...basicaly you weld up the centre diff.
